We must not continue lip service as current service members and veterans help those hurting silently. We are losing to many to suicide.

Do you believe we are loosing this battle? Who is responsible for enlightening others who were brought up in a military that looked down on mental health?
Veteran suicide should have just as much if not more attention than the Armed Forces current pet project SHARP( not meant as a slight on a great program but it is the flavor of the month for commanders of all levels).
Do you believe that is a correct statement?
Please keep it professional while discussing. Both SHARP and mental health are serious topics. Thank you.

SFC (Join to see), we are absolutely losing the battle at the moment. As a Veteran, and an advocate for suicide endangered Vets, I am very aware that Veterans are taking their own lives at rate of approximately 22 per day !! It is a terrible trend and one that must be stopped. Everyone can play a part just by taking an interest in the lives of the Veterans (and of course also the Service members) around them, especially those who are most often alone and/or depressed.

The number is WAY higher than 22 a day. It was that 10yrs ago when I lost my son to Suicide.

Beverly L Franklin - Regardless of the number, you are absolutely that Veteran suicides don't get enough attention. My condolences on the death of your son.

I did some research, and these were the latest numbers I could find: https://www.stripes.com/news/veterans/after-years-of-failure-to-end-the-crisis-veteran-suicide-takes-center-stage-on-capitol-hill-1.621428

After years of failure to end the crisis, veteran suicide takes center stage on Capitol Hill
The Department of Veterans Affairs is the second-largest federal agency, behind the DOD in size and budget — and there has been little pushback on the 14% boost in funding requested for 2021. So why are veterans still killing themselves at an alarming rate?
