While watching the New Years Celebration at Times Square I saw a Marine PFC in his dress uniform there. I was a little surprised why you would ever do such a thing.<div><br></div><div>There are functions that you can't wear your uniforms to such as political events or to an extremist organization. I will admit that I did get married in my blues. But is there a time and place for it. I recall seeing video from the WWII era where all soldiers would wear their uniforms while on pass. Now we don't do that but some will still wear their dress uniform to events. I often tease my wife that I am going to wear mine to my sisters wedding because I refuse pay to rent a used tux for two hundred dollars. But I will get the tux to keep the wife happy, at the loss of my wallet.</div><div><br></div><div>Where have you seen military members wear their uniforms to in public? Did it seem professional and respectful for the occasion? The last question, how did it reflect on the military?</div><div><br></div><div>Just don't be like the Navy Seal that killed Bin Laden.</div><div><br></div><div>(I have heard that if you are going to military wedding and you out rank the groom or have more decorations than the groom you shouldn't wear the uniform as you don't want the groom to look any less compared to you.)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://t.fod4.com/c/8e464776e6/c480x270_custom_10436fc7852ae75711ac2de0a2594570_30678.jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/8e464776e6/the-navy-seal-who-killed-osama-bin-laden">The Navy Seal Who Killed Osama Bin Laden</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">with Rob Riggle, Funny Or Die</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

Was it a Liberty requirement? I don't know USMC. I recall a policy change at one time where USMC said no fatigues off post, in town etc. We had the infamous Courtesy Patrol (E7s in a Dodge Aries K car) searching for soldiers in town in BDU.

Lol. I have worn my uniform to dinner, bars, strip clubs, just walking through downtown, visiting my old school, just about everywhere. Now im navy so i have like a dozen frickin uniforms but yeah. Authorized on liberty and makes liberty more fun if you do it in a town not near a navy base.

I always wanted to buy a dress blue jumper and get Liberty patches sown into them and go out into town once while wearing it.

The dress uniform is not a duty uniform. And is allowed at any function Even shopping at Walmart. As long as regulations are followed ( extremist, political )

Before 9-11 we were encourage to wear a dress uniform at.... Any type of social Event or official travel. The military at one time wanted the people to see sharp looking service members out in public.

I would wear my ASU'S but not my ACU/ OCP in public but only for formal occassions. But not every formal occassion though.

Well, unless times have changed that much since I got out. Wearing Dress uniform and even Working Uniform (not BDUs or coveralls) in Public was fine, unless it was to a political function. When I graduated Boot Camp, you had to wear Dress uniform or Working uniform to get off the base. And in "A" School for the first month there you could only wear Working or Dress uniform in Public. Some Ports we pulled into we were required to wear our Dress uniform the first day in port. And trust me you want to be in uniform in Australia.

I don't understand the distaste of soldiers wearing their ACUs off post. If I have a stop at the grocery store or gas station on my way home, I'm not going to go home and change and then come back out.
What I do have a problem with is dress uniform in inappropriate situations. I generally ignore them, but I've become more and more tempted to walk up to soldiers and marines in full dress at Dragon Con of all places and ask them what in they're thinking. These are attention seekers, nothing more.

My wife (then Girlfriend) was graduating from the German basic training and told me I had to wear it.
So, there I am the only U.S. service member there and the only one in uniform. The everyone one was confused with what to do. From the gate guards to the OIC of the post. Very awkward getting saluted by everyone that walks past you as a Specialist. I rarely get the feeling of being the turd in the punchbowl but this definitely was one of those times.
