While watching the New Years Celebration at Times Square I saw a Marine PFC in his dress uniform there. I was a little surprised why you would ever do such a thing.<div><br></div><div>There are functions that you can't wear your uniforms to such as political events or to an extremist organization. I will admit that I did get married in my blues. But is there a time and place for it. I recall seeing video from the WWII era where all soldiers would wear their uniforms while on pass. Now we don't do that but some will still wear their dress uniform to events. I often tease my wife that I am going to wear mine to my sisters wedding because I refuse pay to rent a used tux for two hundred dollars. But I will get the tux to keep the wife happy, at the loss of my wallet.</div><div><br></div><div>Where have you seen military members wear their uniforms to in public? Did it seem professional and respectful for the occasion? The last question, how did it reflect on the military?</div><div><br></div><div>Just don't be like the Navy Seal that killed Bin Laden.</div><div><br></div><div>(I have heard that if you are going to military wedding and you out rank the groom or have more decorations than the groom you shouldn't wear the uniform as you don't want the groom to look any less compared to you.)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://t.fod4.com/c/8e464776e6/c480x270_custom_10436fc7852ae75711ac2de0a2594570_30678.jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/8e464776e6/the-navy-seal-who-killed-osama-bin-laden">The Navy Seal Who Killed Osama Bin Laden</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">with Rob Riggle, Funny Or Die</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

I live in Europe and speak a few of the languages here without an accent. This mis-leads many Europeans to think that I am also a European. When I attend a formal function I will wear my mess blues (Mainly to annoy the leftists) They are always shocked and ask "Are you an American?" I always respond with "Of course! Haven't you noticed that I am handsome, erudite, intelligent , well built and overwhelmingly modest?"

I live in the US and only speak one language with an Accent. I have seemed to picked up some bad habits from my father's native tongue being Portuguese. I am also asked if I am an American sometimes.

While in recruiting, I wore them for the 4th of July parade. Which is not overall weird. However my face was bright red because I was at a tech school getting sprayed with pepper spray by the police science class just before. I couldn't open my eyes and my whole face was on fire!

I once saw a boot PFC wearing his MARPAT uniform at Costco... not more than 3 miles from a Marine base. I didn't say anything to him because I'm sure he just wanted to look nice for his family on boot leave, but he probably got lit up later by some Sergeant Major or something.

The Marine Corps Dress Blue uniform is authorized and encouraged for wear for both leave and liberty. New Years is a Holiday, Times Square has significant history and NYC embrace the presence of the military throughout the year. You seem conflicted with when and where to wear. Graduations? Have no problem there either. Individual decision. My twins graduated HS this year and the school acknowledged both enlistments and service academy commitments in the program handout. Had recruiters there to show support and they were well recieved. Follow your service regulation and you're personal prerogative within it and you'll probably make a good decision. Good Luck

Other than the occasions that you have mentioned, there is nothing prohibiting the wearing of your dress uniform as long as you wear it correctly and do not dishonor your service that the uniform represents. Even after I retired from service, there have been a few occasions that I have worn mine. I earned the right and I am not ashamed to wear my uniform.

I wear mine to funerals, especially if the deceased is a Veteran.

I wore my A's after I got out for my mom. We went to this fine Italian Restaurant in San Jose and she wanted me to wear it for her. That was June of 71. After that, i don't think I did wear them. I never had blues. But my mom liked to see me in it with my jump boots and all, made her happy. We wear hats, shirts, some our old fatigues. I see nothing wrong with a vet wearing his/ or hers, A's or blues. They are telling the world.............I served my country proudly........you don't like it, eat shit.
