While watching the New Years Celebration at Times Square I saw a Marine PFC in his dress uniform there. I was a little surprised why you would ever do such a thing.<div><br></div><div>There are functions that you can't wear your uniforms to such as political events or to an extremist organization. I will admit that I did get married in my blues. But is there a time and place for it. I recall seeing video from the WWII era where all soldiers would wear their uniforms while on pass. Now we don't do that but some will still wear their dress uniform to events. I often tease my wife that I am going to wear mine to my sisters wedding because I refuse pay to rent a used tux for two hundred dollars. But I will get the tux to keep the wife happy, at the loss of my wallet.</div><div><br></div><div>Where have you seen military members wear their uniforms to in public? Did it seem professional and respectful for the occasion? The last question, how did it reflect on the military?</div><div><br></div><div>Just don't be like the Navy Seal that killed Bin Laden.</div><div><br></div><div>(I have heard that if you are going to military wedding and you out rank the groom or have more decorations than the groom you shouldn't wear the uniform as you don't want the groom to look any less compared to you.)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://t.fod4.com/c/8e464776e6/c480x270_custom_10436fc7852ae75711ac2de0a2594570_30678.jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/8e464776e6/the-navy-seal-who-killed-osama-bin-laden">The Navy Seal Who Killed Osama Bin Laden</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">with Rob Riggle, Funny Or Die</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

I wore mine on a date after Basic Training... and went to the movies with my girlfriend.

To see STRIPES...

Yeah, I got almost as many laughs as the movie! And, yes, I'm aware that I just dated myself.

It is my understanding that during WWII all soldiers were required to wear their uniforms wherever they went, even on leave.

I know when I was in Army AIT they mandated that every soldier be in uniform while they went to visit their families on Christmas Exodus. So even though I did not fly but rather drove to my family I HAD to wear my uniform for the trek. So with that said there are times when it is mandated to wear your uniform by your chain of command. I truly don't know the specifics of this situation I was just posting my experience for when someone's chain makes them wear their uniform. This is just a "for instance" and really rooted in your scenario.

You are authorized to wear your uniform to any event except a political event. Beyond that, enjoy wearing it- weddings, New Years Eve are all ok.

I once saw a PFC wear his blues to the club. Right off the bat I saw his white belt was not trimmed properly and his ribbon on the wrong side. At the end of the night he was passed out, sleeping on the parking lot while his coat on the floor. It still makes me angry thinking about that kid...

For my High School prom, I wore my ASUs and me and my date were the best looking couple here. As long as you aren't wearing your uniform somewhere that discredits the military, a political event, etc, you should be fine. I didn't want to have to spend $500+ on a Tux and I had a nicely fresh pressed ASU in my closet ready to go. Plus I am very proud to be in the Army and I feel I was expressing my pride in the Army by wearing my dress uniform. However I feel it is not appropriate to wear your ACUs (or work uniform) to a formally dressed event.

I look at it this way, we earned the right to wear our uniforms anywhere we please, within reason. As long as it's worn correctly, with respect, and honor...... I don't see a problem.

As long as the troop is acting sharp. represents the best attitude and conducts themsuelves with pride in service, why not?

I go a late start having children,42&43. One day my youngest asked me where my uniforms were. I asked her why. She said other dads ware their uniforms to pick them up from school, and you fought in that "Spanish American War where you killed that Tojo guy in Berlin." Laughed my butt off.

But it was time to get the Greens out. Had to buy a new set (gained a few pounds. I'm lying, I gained a lot.) Since then I went from a 48 t0 36. I got back into my uniform which I swore I would.

Back to my original story, showed-up one day in my Class-A's dress uniform with all my decorations, badges, and service stripes overseas bars with my maroon beret, paplinu shirt, black tie, jump boots spit shined and pants bloused, with a side wall hair cut.
The principle took me by the arm and escorted me to the girls classroom, both were in the same class on that day of the week.

She had me wait in the hall, got the girls facing away from the door and waved me in. I walked in behind them, and she said your surprise is behind you. They turned and the look just floored me. You thought I had just returned from a deployment. They both squealed and jumped into my arms.
My god, they cried so hard. I was in schock at the responce. I didn't know what to do. I held them so tight. The entire classrook statred cheering and clapping.

As it was the last class of the day all the kids were pouring into the hallways, asking my two, "Is this your dad?"
To which the replied with such pride in their voice, I've never heard before. "Yes this is my dad, he is my hero!"
The kids were all thanking me, saluting me, clapping and cheering.
It took 40 years for my home coming, all because my babies wanted dad to wear his uniform to school.
Do I regret serving my country? Hell no! Never have. Even after having bricks thrown at me in Bakers Field Califorina,

My body maybe broken, but my spirit isn't. And all these kids, made every moment worth it took 40 years from the most apprecative Americans I've met.

Yeah it's ok to wear your uniform ... with honor and pride.
