While watching the New Years Celebration at Times Square I saw a Marine PFC in his dress uniform there. I was a little surprised why you would ever do such a thing.<div><br></div><div>There are functions that you can't wear your uniforms to such as political events or to an extremist organization. I will admit that I did get married in my blues. But is there a time and place for it. I recall seeing video from the WWII era where all soldiers would wear their uniforms while on pass. Now we don't do that but some will still wear their dress uniform to events. I often tease my wife that I am going to wear mine to my sisters wedding because I refuse pay to rent a used tux for two hundred dollars. But I will get the tux to keep the wife happy, at the loss of my wallet.</div><div><br></div><div>Where have you seen military members wear their uniforms to in public? Did it seem professional and respectful for the occasion? The last question, how did it reflect on the military?</div><div><br></div><div>Just don't be like the Navy Seal that killed Bin Laden.</div><div><br></div><div>(I have heard that if you are going to military wedding and you out rank the groom or have more decorations than the groom you shouldn't wear the uniform as you don't want the groom to look any less compared to you.)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://t.fod4.com/c/8e464776e6/c480x270_custom_10436fc7852ae75711ac2de0a2594570_30678.jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/8e464776e6/the-navy-seal-who-killed-osama-bin-laden">The Navy Seal Who Killed Osama Bin Laden</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">with Rob Riggle, Funny Or Die</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

Personally, I don't want all that attention and questions being thrown at me. I am a silent killer. I don't speak, talk, or hint about what I've done. However, in ASU'S it's not easy to abide by that.

As a young Sailor right out of Boot Camp, I wore my Jumper Whites to Church, and to visit my old High School. I was married in my Jumper Blues. I wore my SDB's a few times: once when surprising my dad on Fathers Day at his Church with my two sons, once when laying my grandfather to rest (WWII Sailor), to a Veterans Day commemoration, and to a Masonic Lodge Initiation.
As an NJROTC NSI, I thoroughly enjoyed it when former cadets would visit after Boot Camp in uniform, regardless of what it was.

US Army personnel should look like proud soldiers and wear class A green or khaki when in public or not at work or training.

It is an honor to wear the uniform. You could wear it to Wal Mart daily if you wanted to. Generally its for formal events where a Tux would be appropriate.
As for a wedding, if in doubt ask. The reason you would not want to 'out dress' the groom is a fallback to why brides maids dresses are inferior to the bride, SHE is supposed to look the best.
You may not attend political or hate rallies in uniform, nor give the impression (in uniform) that the military may endorse your statements.

I was home on leave and I was going to meet Mom for lunch at the bank. Mom asked me to wear my Navy dress blue uniform and I did. When we left the bank Mom all 5'4" of her walked out the bank 10 ft tall as i escorted her out the bank.

I remember being on a flight while going home on leave. I saw an A1C wearing his ABU's. Since the A1C was in the same squadron as me, I knew he wasn't flying on orders or official duty. When the flight attendant came by to offer him an extra seat in first class, I interrupted with "He will politely decline your offer and remain in his seat in coach." It was then, that he recognized me. His face turned pale white, then he politely declined and remained in his seat for the rest of the flight. After we got off the plane, we had a private little chat. Turns out, he was wearing his uniform in hopes that he would get bumped to first class. After the ass chewing he received, I don't think he will ever attempt it again.

I don't wear mine any more than I absolutely have to in public. Don't like drawing attention to myself and don't want the uniform to define who I am to others, I would rather let my own personal actions do that for me.

I had a ticket I recieved while speeding back to base as a seaman recruit. I wore my cracker jacks to traffic court and it turned out the Jude was in tha Navy as a young lad and dismissed it. He wanted to know why I was speeding and I told him I was getting back for formation after taking my girlfriend out all night!

I enlisted at 17 and was an early grad after the first semester. I graduated boot camp and was home on leave for my HS graduation. I refused to buy a cap and gown when I had just spent 13 1/2 weeks earning the title Marine. I agree there are formal events where dress blues are appropriate. However, that doesn't mean you should be wearing your blues every time you go out.
