I'm currently in Korea as a whiskey and I'm looking for extra training certifications beyond what we are initially taught. Any advice?

If you've been a 68W for at least a year consider dropping your flight packet. As a 68WF2 you'll go to paramedic school, critical training, in addition to other certificate courses that are required.

How do you get or apply for EMT-P? I have never seen that nor has my NCO. Thank you.

Non-medical specific: Lean Six Sigma Training will probe valuable as you progress thru the ranks. You can be awarded ASI of 1X or 1Y http://www.armyg1.army.mil/BTD/blackbelt.asp

Granted, most of these certifications are only applicable to hospital work, but they will still help refine you as a healthcare professional and will be very useful for your future. Definitely take ACLS. If you work with peds, then also take PALS. NIH stroke certification is free online and is the standard in most hospitals, and is just great knowledge to have. For trauma, you can get your PHTLS...a must if you do MEDEVAC or will transition to civilian EMS. And all these courses are excellent CEUs.

It is also a good idea to start taking college classes when you can. Knocking out the general ed stuff while in the military will help make your GI Bill go further.

The National Healthcareer Association (NHA) offers several credentialing opportunities related to 68w training. You might want to cgeck them out. The Army may even pay for them.

Advanced Cardiovasuclar Life Support
Prehospital Trauma Life Support or
International Trauma Life Support
Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Some good Certs to start with, then start working on AEMT, and then NRP.
