Well since I’ve been there and gone now. It wasn’t too bad. Yes there is nothing around and nothing to do but if you focus on things you need to do for yourself and career it will be fine and beneficial.

It’s a pretty austere place to be stationed, considering you’re CONUS. No on post housing, the closest town is Hattiesburg about 15 minutes north. Limited services on post, although Keesler Air Force Base about 45 miles south has an MTF and commissary. It’s a National Guard post so it’s pretty empty during the week and overcrowded on weekends and summertime

I have worked at Camp Shelby for 18 years. Watch out for snakes and get ready for the hot summers.lol

I’m used to hot summers but the snakes that’s another issue there. Thanks for the heads up. What kind of snakes? I have a small dog, should I be worried about him in the yard alone?

No you should be good with your dog. If your living off post just make sure you get a place away from old down town,4th and 7th street. Those are not good areas to live.

I can’t speak on the position but you are close to various vacation spots. Get out on the weekends and explore. You have Destine Florida, New Orleans, Tupelo (Home of Elvis Presley), Alabama and numerous other places you can visit. Ocean Springs is beautiful too. Enjoy your tour.
