So they just released to the promotion list for Major. I’m humbled to say that I was selected for promotion to Major and I am looking forward to the transition. Any advice for a soon-to-be new Field Grade Officer?

Don't forget what it was like dealing with the BN staff as a Company Commander.

Good advice CSM. I gave my fair share of grief to the BN XO when I was a Company Commander.

Had a major who was my senior rater and gave me my final OER upon my retirement. My rater was a CPT who was about to PCS and I was to have have his job. Chief of supply and services (GS11). I knew i was going to get a MSM because the CPT Harry Flanagan told me because I had been there 8 years and wanted my input for the award. Harry gave me a 100. The Major gives me a 98. Every other OER I had ever had was a 200 my whole career as a warrant. This major comes down the stairs and is smiling and asks me Chief, did you like the OER? No I did not Major. You cannot be protecting your profile. I am the only warrant you have ever rated. No wonder why you have been passed over for 05 twice. My advice is get some sound advice from other Majors or your CSM. I ended up as the DOL a year later and had captains work for me. One was a jerk and I gave him what he deserved on his OER. The major retired at 20.

How will you earn an advanced degree, Master or PhD? You'll need it for promotion to LTC or Civilian.

I jumped on that task early, earned my MBA as a LT while serving as a Company XO.

Thanks Sir. I'll try to remember what they taught me and what I learned when I was a Senior NCO, 10 years ago. LOL.
