Is their an existing AR that regulates/restricts the amount of leave that is approved for PCS when your DEROS has undergone a Curtailment? PCS’ing from Alaska to Hawaii. Turned in my Levy Packet to S-1 to get orders and was told that I am only allowed to begin PCS leave on my DEROS date. Attempting to discern whether this decision was made on behalf of discretion of higher authority or if it is stated in an existing AR platform? Have researched AR 630-14 Overseas Tours and spoken with my NCO support channel as well as my retention NCO and have been unable to find an answer.

If you are currently on an overseas assignment what they are telling you is correct, you can’t start leave before your adjusted DEROS date, for example, if your DEROS is 10 February, you can’t start leave on 20 January.

When transportation book your flight, you’ll have a better idea when to start your leave. Transportation can schedule to depart 5 days before or 5 days after your DEROS. I hope this helps, good luck to you...

The best way to do it is to schedule your flight first, then submit your leave form. This way you won’t waste any leave days in the event you fly after your DEROS.SGT (Join to see)

Transportation is not does not adjust the leave form to fit your travel dates. You adjust your leave form to match your travel date that’s scheduled by transportation.SGT (Join to see)

I am PCSing to Hawaii as well and I was told anything over 45 had to be approved by the BDE CDR. I’m taking 30 days as well as permissive so I am not sure. Maybe it is based upon your current leaders or unit, as you have mentioned.

You may want to look AR 600-8-10 Leave and Passes Ch 7 and read through it, as it pertains to the both of you. SGT (Join to see) typically the answer is no more than 30 days are authorized. This is not taking into account travel, other circumstances or what your Commander has authorized. SSG (Join to see) pay special attention to para 5-31 Permissive Temporary Duty of the same reg for your question(s). Appendix A gives a list of publications associated with whatever regulation you're using at the time, hopefully that will make it easier when you need to find answers.
