I know that there are frustrations with the Soldiers you are recieving from the schoolhouse. If you could have Soldiers show up a bit more knowledgeable in a certain area what would it be? (watch the level of deatil on the answers for OPSEC purposes.

As with most of us that come out of AIT, we learn a lot more on the job then the entire time in school. I think a bigger issue stems from not fully integrating the hotel training in with the echo's. There is far more focus on the van then the early warning, from my experience anyways. From people I've talked to, it definitely seems to be a chronic issue.

I wholeheartedly agree, hopefully this will improve with the new version of the .86. His will fully integrate tcs and bcp training into the gunnery program. Also, 14H will begin attending patriot master gunner, this will help with the integration process.

It's not even just coming from the schoolhouse. It is not the school house's job to teach in-depth tactical expertise, you get the basics. It's NCOs at the unit who need to use deployment and other tactical training (SPEAR, OREs, MREs, etc.) to produce quality 14Hs and leaders. Too often, these 14H pvts are shoved in the training room or put as armors or on RSOP (which they need to be on at some point in their career), or somewhere that they are not actively working in their MOS-specific equipment. The schoolhouse, most likely, isn't going to prepare you for your first duty station, the NCOs & leaders at your unit will be responsible for that.

I believe you are right SGT LaRiviere. I have noticed that it really hinges on your "battery trainer", commander and 1SG. If these personnel didn't have good hotels in the past they will not see the utility we provide to the fight. 14Hs are not marketed very well to the force. I have also noticed that if the e5 at the unit is actively involved in training their hotels will become a more active part of the fight. Great comment on rapp most people hide out from that job, though it is a great learning point. Are your hotels in fire control or HQ?

For me it seems like they understand the operation of the tpw and amdws where it counts but lacking in generator and DRASH knowledge.
