Armstrong and Miller - Pilots - Wartime Food
2 RAF pilots who speak in a clipped accent but with modern teenager lingo. In this sketch they discuss how bad wartime food is, such as powdered egg, which i...
The majority of the topics on RP deal with current issues and some serious topics, however, I have found that having a clever and well-timed sense of humor can be one of the many necessary tools in your "bag of leadership skills". A well placed comedic remark can relieve stress and help others realize that things are not as bad as they initially seem.
A few years ago, I came across two British comedians (Armstrong and Miller), who portray a pair of "entitlement generation" RAF pilots stuck in a WWII, "greatest generation culture". Sound familiar? The pair talk in a sort of mono-syllabic, fractured English, lingo that is typical of 21st century antisocial UK youth. Like Beatle Bailey or Sad Sack, they have a constant on-going culture clash with their superiors and brothers in arms alike.
Below are a few short skits on some timeless military topics. NOTE: There are many more, just do a youtube search on "Armstrong and Miller Pilots"

There was an awful Goldie Hawn movie called "Private Benjamin" that contained a scene that sticks in my mind. The trainees are about to participate in a range exercise, their NCOIC gives the a briefing on the environment that includes words to the effect that - "You may find a number of land mines downrange; most of them are inert, however some are ert."

Not from a skit, but IRL.
I was range NCOIC and during my initial briefing to the Soldiers, I told them there may be unexploded ordinance beyond the target line and that no one was to go onto the back berm for any reason, even if we started a fire. We were to let it burn and call Range Control. This was repeated by the 2LT Range Safety Officer in he safety brief.
While we are downrange, checking targets, it was notice that one of the tracers had started a fire on the berm. What happens? the RSO shouts "Let's put it out!" and he proceeds to run up the berm and start stomping on the flames followed by several soldiers. This was then followed by me bellowing at them to get off the berm. The fire burned itself out within a few minutes anyway.
The next day I was running the tower. While all the Soldiers are down checking targets, I see a soldier cross the firing line heading for the targets. I jump on the bullhorn yelling at the Soldier about crossing the weapons line with Soldiers downrange. I found out later that that Soldier was a full bird, the BDE CDR. That afternoon the COL came up to me and apologized.

I had never heard of Armstrong and Miller, but I've been watching for big chunks of the last two days since reading this post. Very, very funny and spot on for today's military.
