This is a slightly different topic than famous movie quotes. These are real life quotes -- things that real people [not Hollyweird actors!] said.
What we're doing here is looking for quotes that have some kind of connection of meaning to you that you think others might identify with and vote up.
What I'm referring to are famous military quotes, political, inspirational, satire, witty, sarcastic, etc.
It can even be something you came up with (Don't plagiarize!) or a quote from your friends, but if it's never been in print, you need to tell the story that goes along with it.
Enter as many times as you like. We'll let the up votes determine the overall winners, and in each general category.
Here's an example of something sarcastic by witty:
"They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!" << (That was Clemson not that long ago.)

Well that's gonna go over like a pregnant pole vaulter- my dad
There's nothing between here and the North Pole but a barbed wire fence, and that sonuvabitch is down- my grandfather commenting on the wind in Oklahoma.

"Be a man of principle. Fight for what you believe in. Keep your word. Live with integrity. Be brave. Believe in something bigger than yourself. Serve your country. Teach. Mentor. Give something back to society. Lead from the front. Conquer your fears. Be a good friend. Be humble and be self-confident. Appreciate your friends and family. Be a leader and not a follower. Be valorous on the field of battle. And take responsibility for your actions. Never forget those that were killed. And never let rest those that killed them."

"I have been asked what I mean by 'word of honor.' I will tell you. Place me behind prison walls—walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground—there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.” - Karl G. Maeser

“I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the United States Navy.”

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf- attributed to George Orwell, turns out not. Still a great line.

People Sleep Peacefully in Their Beds at Night Only Because Rough Men Stand Ready to Do Violence...
Dear Quote Investigator: The brilliant writer George Orwell authored two of the most powerful and acclaimed political books of the last century: 1984 and Animal Farm. The saying that interests me is usually attributed to him, and there are two popular versions:
