Are you talking about becoming a wing warrant or a walking warrant? Many of the non flight WOs require documented NCO leadership time within specific feeder MOS's for each specialty. Make sure you understand what the requirements are (easy to Google. I recommend that you learn how to find info on your own as much as possible). Once you know the requirements, you will have better tools needed to plan. Go find your retention NCO. That Sergeant will know who the WO accessions NCO is (or there will be a poster near the office with contact info). Go, seek and learn.

In the ARNG, for many WOMOS, SPC/E4 may obtain a waiver for the rank prerequisite. Of course you would have to have documented experience outside of NCOERs, and Im not sure how often it is approved, but I say go for it. The worst that could happen is for your packet to be determined to be noncompetitive after two boards and you have to wait a year before you apply again.

Going warrant was the best decision I ever made. I highly recommend that if you’re serious about becoming a warrant, find a senior mentor warrant officer to help guide you.

Do it! Go to the symposium. Talk to a current warrant officer. Find their warrant officer recruiter. Talk to him/her.
