What are some things I can do in order to distinguish myself for a waiver from E-3 to E-4?

Volunteer for work. Be the go to guy, the reliable person. Take charge in the absence of leaders.

Own your job, take pride in every facet of it, no matter how small. Show improvement (PT, Correspondence Classes). Own your uniform and bearing. Volunteer to lead PRT drills, or Hip pocket training during STT. All this to say, show your leadership you bought into the Army, and you want to leave your mark on it.

Great question! Well, for starters.. Continue to do the right thing, at all times... even when no one is looking! It’s the little things that will separate you from your peers. Remember, everyone is always watching, and you’re always being evaluated. Talk to your TL/ SL and ask if you can lead PT. Knowing the 10 PRT exercises is something even NCO’s at time forget! Give 100 percent while conducting PT, and while everyone is smoking and joking, pull out a ranger handbook, and study! I agree with CSM, hip pocket training is a must! Take what you learn from your study materials, and teach your team/ squad!
Remember, right place, right uniform, clean haircut and more importantly... CLEAN BOOTS!
Best of luck!

ask if you can teach some hip-pocket training. Do it well, it will show your leaders that you want to work.

Start with small things. If you are told to take out the trash, put a new bag liner in the trash can without being told.

Make yourself indispensable, show up at the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform, with the equipment, ready to work. Be task and detail oriented.

Distinguish your self from the rest. Always be ready to go right place, time, uniform, and attitude. Study and educate your self on military skills. Do courses on JKO volunteer for details and or any schools that come up. Take charge amongst the lower enlisted and earn their trust and respect.

Great question, I would challenge you to take this question to the next level. "What can I do to achieve long term success?" All the answers above are great for the short term success you are looking for but getting into the college classroom as soon as possible and as often as possible will pay off in the long run.

Do all that you can to show your leadership that you deserve that rank and are ready for it. For example, like SSG (Join to see) mentioned, volunteer to run PRT. Taking initiative is always a great thing. Next thing you know you will have developed leadership skills and will be ready to become a SGT. Also, make yourself available and willing to help your fellow soldiers. Leadership looks for that in junior enlisted. Best of luck.
