The Crossing Part 1 (Long Retreat From New York)
The Crossing Part 1 George Washington and the Continental Army of America crossing the Delaware River on Christmas Day, and the Battle of Trenton on December...
I read some books but the art war escaped me when I was young. I did watch a good movie about the suffering, cold, hungry, beleaguered Continent Army and the militia. The revolution is almost a perfect model to describe an insurgency.

Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper; although a fictionalized account of 1757, it was not to far off the mark. You would only have to make it through the verbose language that Cooper wrote. It can be tedious.

I read a lot of Christian books that focus on how the mindset of the country was at the time and how Christianity formed many of the actions taken. They are also very good at pointing out historical facts that I had not heard and give great insight into the mindset of the people.

There are many and I am busy plowing through the best - America's God and Christians in the American Revolution by Mark A. Noll. He is considered the primary source on this subject and currently at Notre dame. What I found really interesting is the fact he talks about how the revolutionary war was a secular war based on many things other than Puritans wanting their religious freedom. The way he links it all together is an honest dialogue based on facts.
