What are the Best Military Monuments that You've Seen? Share a Picture?

All the memorials are equally deserving of our commitment to honor those that bore the battle but my most favorite is Arlington cemetery. Not because the tomb itself was made in Vermont but also my relative once owned it and the heroes buried there should be honored everyday of the year.

I have been impressed by many of our military monuments, but The one that really stood out was the sandbox mockup inside Checkpoint Charlie of the Berlin Wall and the American sector. I was with 3 other officers on a "slow " day in Dec 1973 when we visited the wall. We went inside the checkpoint to the mockup for a briefing before climbing the stairs to one of the wooden observation platforms and then then eventually crossing over to the Russian sector for a walk.

I am looking at having one made for a Ft. Hood soldier (there during the shooting) was medically retired and later succeeded suicide. Awaiting price quote, but you will love the statue of The Forgotten Soldier. I an keeping this on the down-low right now, because his father is terminally ill and I plan on driving the statue to this soldier's home state and cemetery. I will be working with a few VFW posts and asking others for contributions after I get the quote.

All Confederate Monuments should not be taken down, that's my heritage.

Two that are near& dear to me, Iron Mike from the Infantry Center and School and the Gander Memorial near Ft. Campbell. Seems like 100 years ago and DEFINITELY 100 lbs ago. God bless you all. Strike and Kill! AIRBORNE!!!!!!!

The entirety of Verdun.

Traveling with camera at the ready gives one the opportunity to capture images with historical significance. While traveling in Ireland in 2006 I came across this monument to Myles Keogh who was with Custer at The Little Big Horn. Keogh was a native of Leighlin (Leighlinbridge), County Carlow. As an Irish soldier he served in the Papal Army in Italy and then coming to America answered the call of the Union Army and served with distinction. He was with General John Buford at Gettysburg and was awarded a brevet rank of Major due to his actions and leadership during the battle. He later attained the brevet rank of Lieutenant Colonel. At The Little Big Horn he commanded Company I of the U.S. 7th Cavalry (Garryowen).

Dragoon Circle-Carlisle Barracks, PA.

Cottontail Park in Manduria Italy, base of the 450th Bomb Group dedicated to the men of the 450th and built as a park for the children of the town and a memorial to the airmen who served there. Built with donations from the airmen and their family's thru the purchase of trees with memorial plaques on them. This is my dads plaque and his plane.

I have posted 2 images of monuments to chaplains. There must be more. Does anyone have an image of a monument or memorial to a chaplain/chaplains. From reading the current Army magazine I know there is a monument to Fr. Duffy (of the fighting 69th) in New York City at Times Square. Does anyone have an image of that to share.
