What are the Best Military Monuments that You've Seen? Share a Picture?

This is in the military science building at Kansas State University. It's the photos of all the KSU students and alumni KIA or MIA during WW1. There was a research project done on the 48 men that traced their history through the war and which battles they fought in that goes with this as well. It was very interesting to listen to and read about. Several of the officers there were among the first in the 1st ID and in France.

Iron Mike Statue at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville, NC

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum in Pittsburgh is the largest memorial in the United States dedicated solely to honoring all branches of military veterans and service personnel. Dedicated in 1910 it was built to honor Grand Army of the Republic Civil War Veterans. The museum houses rare and one of a kind exhibits that span the many wars and conflicts our nation's military have participated in. Since 1963 more than 600 area heroes have been inducted into the Hall of Valor. Members of the Hall of valor are recipients of the Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, Air Force Cross and Silver Star among others. The Hall also has a venue for banquets meetings and concerts. It is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Honoring 28th U.S. Infantry Regiment for valor at Cantigny, France, 28 May 1918. Cantigny was the first major U.S. offensive of WW I. 28th Infantry adopted the Black Lion from Picardy province coat of arms & ever since have been known as "The Lions of Cantigny." This monument was dedicated at Cantigny several years ago. A similar one is at First Division Museum at Cantigny Park near Chicago.

As treasurer of the Marine Corps Engineer Association I'm adding the one we dedicated at the Memorial Park of the National Museum of the Marine Corps three years ago. Looks like the full picture will not display -- I'll try to find one that will.

Here's another one the many people may not know. Soldier Field, home of the Monsters of the Midway (the Chicago Bears NFL Team) is dedicated to the Armed Forces of the United States.

I guess I've had several GREAT MILITARY MOMENTS. First when I graduated from Jump School in the 82d Airborne Divisions Jump School back in 1959. My second great military moment was when I completed the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg and received my Green Beret. My next would be when I was the first OCS graduate to cross the graduating platform and receive his diploma wearing the Green Beret and bloused boots. Another great moment would have been when I graduated from the Special Forces Officers Course and was assigned as the XO of an Operational Detachment Alpha in the 12th Special Forces Group Airborne and again in the 7th Special Forces Group Airborne.

I had two uncles who served with the Marine Corps (a chaplain and a Corpsman) so the United States Marine Corps War Memorial (also called the Iwo Jima Memorial) was very evocative. The monument is just outside Arlington National Cemetery across the Potomac river from the Capitol.
