Without a doubt, there are truly some great resources available to active and Reserve component personnel and veterans. Of course, if folks don't know that they're out there, members and their families couldn't possibly benefit from some of these amazing offers and services. So, the idea here is to share those helpful tidbits of information, tips, links, lessons learned, processes, resources, wisdom and/or POCs to help members find the resources they need for their troops, their families, and to help themselves. Just a couple of quick admin notes, please make sure to share the source if known, and remember to post in accordance with RallyPoint guidelines. Well, I'm certain that will be a great way to get timely information, resources, and assistance to those who need it most, when they need it the most... so, if you have something useful, helpful, or good-to-know, please feel free to share. Alright folks, it's that time, so pull-up a keyboard and let's get this thing started; thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

*** Community Service Resources ***
- About United We Serve

United We Serve, President Obama’s nationwide service initiative, is built on the belief that ordinary people can come together and achieve extraordinary things when given the proper tools. This initiative aims to both expand the impact of existing organizations by engaging new volunteers in their work and encourage volunteers to develop their own "do-it-yourself" projects.

If we want to realize change in our communities, we've got to be in it for the long haul, and it starts with each of us.

VA is taking decisive action to end Veteran homelessness in five years. All Veterans at risk for homelessness or attempting to exit homelessness must have easy access to programs and services including Prevention, Housing Support, Treatment, Employment and Job Training.

If you are a Veteran who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, you can contact the National VA Call Center at [login to see] , or contact VA online through the Homeless Veterans Chat service.

This page provides resources for veterans looking for housing. This page lists the HUD homeless veteran programs and initiatives, as well as resources, publications, and relevant links to agencies and organizations.

Additionally, as a way to make these programs more easily accessible, local contact information for each program is provided.

Life in the military is stressful for both the enlisted person and his or her family members. This unique lifestyle presents its own specific set of obstacles and challenges that are vastly different from those typically faced by civilians. Members of military families may be separated from one another, or they may move to strange lands where they don’t understand the spoken language or cultural traditions. They may also encounter a loved one’s service-connected injury, disability, or death. Fortunately, there are a multitude of resources designed to support military families in all of these situations. By utilizing these resources, military families may enjoy a fuller and more successful life, both during active duty and after retirement.

*** Small Business assistance ***

The Veteranscorp.org mission is to help structure and facilitate collaborations between nonprofit and profit small business entities and veteran/service disabled veteran owned small businesses. Veteranscorp.org serves as the reconstitution of the National Veterans Business Development Corporation, dba The Veterans Corporation, which was chartered by Congress under Public Law 106-50. The new Veteranscorp.org is not chartered by Congress but has assumed the original mission: to help and educate Veterans in small business. To accomplish its mission, Veteranscorp.org acts as clearinghouse for ideas and information deemed useful to veteran and service disabled veteran owned small businesses. Veteranscorp.org also acts as a clearinghouse for soliciting and distributing small business information to the general public. For consideration of any possible collaboration, please get in touch!

WHY START A VETERAN-OWNED SMALL BUSINESS?

Veterans are natural entrepreneurs. They are disciplined, goal-oriented self-starters. Accustomed to accountability, they know the value of being decisive and flexible. There are approximately 22.5 million veterans who have served in our armed forces. With the jobless rate persistently high, and unemployment among veterans outpacing the national average, training in entrepreneurship makes sense. Leveraging the talents of veterans will promote self-employment and will help stimulate the economy.

A discussion courtesy of CPT Scott Fussell in another thread:

There many Veterans (and even those on active duty) that are doing it. I have a podcast focused on Veteran Entrepreneurship (CommandYourBusiness.com). I have interviews with over 50 to include Aaron Kletzing (RP Co-Founder) . I have seen people succeed from all branches and all ranks. There have been plenty of failures as well. The one thing entrepreneurs talk about "failure" is they treat it as learning versus failing.

Lots of Resources
-multiple programs from IVMF at Syracuse (EBV, Boots To Business, VWise, etc...)
-TechStars Patriot Boot Camp (3 day programs, for Technology focused businesses, they have one in Sept in Wisconsin )
-Inc Military Entrepreneurs Program
-Someone Else mentioned "The Bunker" @1871 in Chicago
-VetsInTech
- Various Meetup.com groups focused on Veteran Owned Businesses
-American Dream U ...just held an event at Ft Bragg

TRUST VETS was founded by a long-time supporter of American Military Veterans, Joe Johnson. Unable to serve, Joe has absolute and unlimited passion in supporting the brave men and women who have served.

Our ambition is to drive business to your Veteran communities. We do this through relationships, web directory, social media and our Friend of Veterans program. We make it easy for Veterans to serve each other here at home, and for communities to serve their Veterans.

Today, TRUST VETS represents over 45 industries and we are currently seeking a minimum of 110 Veterans, nationwide, to serve as the cornerstone for our mission!
