Without a doubt, there are truly some great resources available to active and Reserve component personnel and veterans. Of course, if folks don't know that they're out there, members and their families couldn't possibly benefit from some of these amazing offers and services. So, the idea here is to share those helpful tidbits of information, tips, links, lessons learned, processes, resources, wisdom and/or POCs to help members find the resources they need for their troops, their families, and to help themselves. Just a couple of quick admin notes, please make sure to share the source if known, and remember to post in accordance with RallyPoint guidelines. Well, I'm certain that will be a great way to get timely information, resources, and assistance to those who need it most, when they need it the most... so, if you have something useful, helpful, or good-to-know, please feel free to share. Alright folks, it's that time, so pull-up a keyboard and let's get this thing started; thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

*** Social Media issues ***
I ran across this as a Facebook posting on the US Army FORSCOM page. Not sure if this is a good thing or not, but it's what we have to work with .....

Army Times article from CID: Be alert and aware on social media
Army Criminal Investigation Command is calling on all soldiers and their loved ones to scrub their social media accounts in light of recent world events.

In an announcement Thursday, special agents with CID's Computer Crime Investigative Unit are "strongly recommending" that anyone affiliated with the military review their social media accounts to make sure they're using the best security settings to protect their online profiles.

Entire article can be found here: http://www.armytimes.com/story/military/tech/2014/12/11/cid-social-media-security/20262571/?sf34608395=1

***Defense Depart Transition Assistance ***

The programs stated goal is to give participants "the tools and knowledge they need to identify a business opportunity and launch their enterprise." To date, the program has focused on service members who are still in uniform but nearing the end of their service commitment. The idea is to give them a running start toward civilian careers as small-business entrepreneurs.

Coming back to civilian life brings new challenges, new opportunities and new stories of remarkable courage and accomplishment. Public media tells stories that help communities understand the veteran experience. And through Veterans Coming Home, made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, public media connects veterans to resources and services for a successful transition to civilian life.

*** Military & Veteran Associations ***

Members of the military community -- veterans, active-duty, reserve, National Guard, or their family members -- have the opportunity to join or otherwise benefit from several types of associations and organizations. Ranging from fraternal to charity these military specific organizations can provide advocacy, help you network to access job opportunities, tap into benefits, lobby congress, or find support

These discounts are offered by various companies and are meant to be sort of a thank you to all those who work for the Government. This includes military and non-military Government jobs and the savings that can be enjoyed can wind up being quite substantial.

*** Community Service Resources ***
- About United We Serve

United We Serve, President Obama’s nationwide service initiative, is built on the belief that ordinary people can come together and achieve extraordinary things when given the proper tools. This initiative aims to both expand the impact of existing organizations by engaging new volunteers in their work and encourage volunteers to develop their own "do-it-yourself" projects.

If we want to realize change in our communities, we've got to be in it for the long haul, and it starts with each of us.
