Integrity, active listening, garners regular feedback, respectful, non-reactive, not afraid to get hands dirty / doesn't delegate tasks they wouldn't do / haven't done themselves.

1. Communication goes BOTH ways.
2. Lead by example.
3. Don’t hide behind your rank.
4. Let all subordinates know what is expected of them.
5. Your orders are the only one’s that matter to every Marine under your command.
6. Give exact, and precise mission orders and utilize brevity when doing so.
9. Accept consequences of failure and immediately regroup.
10. Never show doubt or lack of confidence.
11. Second guessing leads to failure; be committed with your decisions and orders.
12. Never show fear, despite being afraid.
13. Listen to your Marines 24/7; good or bad, they’ll follow a great listener.
14. Be professional 24/7.
15. Be passionate; they will follow you!

As always lead by example. Get to know all your subordinates and peers. Show and encourage your subordinates to finish any task with pride. Treat all people with respect and understanding. Give and take criticisms as you would expect of others. Be fair, honest and with the utmost concern for others.

The instructor should never and I mean never allow more than 15min. To lapse between smoke breaks.
That always pissed me off in basic training back in 1978

Honesty, integrity, and respect for others. In addition, I believe an authentic leader listens to those around him/her and gathers input to make the best decisions possible. An authentic leader also has excellent communication skills and is able to work with those above him/her in the chain of command, with his/her peers, and with his/her subordinates.
