an authentic leader puts his people before himself,
an authentic leader teaches and does not hold back or hold a grudge when a (former) subordinate surpasses them either in job or rank.
and authentic leader leads by example. does not shy away from the actual work that needs to be done.

A strong authentic leader must always lead from the front with confidence and humility. They must be willing to serve by doing their best to train, mentor, and develop their subordinates to better prepare them to not only be the best versions of themselves, but to become future leaders as well. An authentic leader must also be transparent, approachable, and open-minded. Most importantly, they must be themselves and constantly striving to improve. It’s true what they say, nobody is born a leader. They are developed by the strong and authentic leaders before them that lead by example.

As a Navy veteran, I believe the best traits in an authentic leader include leading by example, being true to oneself, and inspiring trust and respect in others. A good leader should demonstrate the same values and behaviors they expect from their team, while creating a culture of collaboration and mutual support. These traits are essential for building a strong and effective team, both in the military and in any other context.
