What are the best ways to earn joint credit in the National Guard (it seems a bit difficult to become a JQO if you’re not in the AC)?

I was Joint Qualified while working at NGB. My position was one of a handful of JDAL billets. The NGB is working to get more billets on the books, to include some at the JFHQ. These likely won’t be below 06. So for now the best way to get credit is deployments, AGR swap or any swap to NGB. Make sure it’s to NGB and not to ARNG. And like mentioned below, not much of an advantage at promotion boards. I sat at a state promotion board for LTC a few years ago. The biggest discriminator was schooling.

# 1. Understand the rules of how to apply. This is the most important part. I’ve had several joint tours and show zero joint “experience” because I didn’t understand the process.
#2 deploy in a joint billet
#2 deploy in a joint billet

I can attest to this. I missed the window for retroactive joint credit for two tours.

Yes. I am 0-2 and on my third and determined to actually get the credit I’ve earned for a change
