What are the pros and cons of changing my orders from Ft. Wainwright to Hawaii?

So nowadays soldiers assigned to Alaska can just say "no thanks, I'd rather go to HI" and that's it? In my time the personnel types would just say "no, we're not laughing at you, we're laughing with you" if someone tried to do that. GL. ;)
