Is this a sound political and strategic move or will it spark even deeper division between the Palestinians and the Jewish state? Thoughts?

We have heard for many sides on this- bottom line IT DOES NOT MATTER- any nation can select their capital- the rest of the world has to go with it- It's called INTERNAL POLITICS- you either conduct business with them in their capital, or you don't conduct business!

If it does cause (spark) a deeper division it will come from the Palestinians and their proxies. However, I don't believe it will change the landscape and most certainly will not change our support for the Jewish state under the current president.

I'm for Jerusalem being the capital of the Jewish state. I am a Christian. I read the bible and I know the Muslims will never defeat Israel.

Having read all the answers below, I must say that I'm not religious, or even jewish for that matter. What the final enabling of Clinton's policy has done is to make it clear that our only reliable allies in the mideast are the jews. It behooves us to notify the rest of the world that we will stand with them against all those who have made it clear that their policy and their intention is to destroy them.

At a minimum, it means that the US is more or less being forced out of the table when it comes to any talk of peace in the region. We are no longer trusted as an impartial party and this decision has thrown away any pretext in concern for justice or international law; which we could at least pretend to be invested in before.
It is not sound policy. It is strictly political pandering with consequences that will cripple progress for who knows how long.

By the Word of God it is leading to the war of Armaggeddon. The nations shall gather themselves against Jerusalem and during this war it will lead to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is the beginning of the end.

None. When people really educate themselves, they'll know the Palestinians were nomads and never owned a thing, for one, and second even the Quran states the land belongs to Israel, and Israel didn't "take" it from them, they took it back from the British. The Palestinians were nothing but servants/bootblacks to the British at the time. Quit listening to the thieving Palestinians.

If the Jewish State wants it, why not. Why is it up to the USA to say where their Capital is anyway. Can they NOT run their own Country??

We're not telling them which city is their capitol or where that capitol is located. We're finally paying the right one its formal recognition.

Sgt William Collins
They've selected their capital. We're just moving our embassy there, where it should be . . .

When I visited there about 1995 there were many Palestinians who couldn't even go to property they owned, also many Jews who had purchased property with their own funds were having trouble visiting their land. This has been ongoing since the Exodus, and here we are, still not wise enough to resolve this crisis. On my way from Jericho to Jerusalem there were the remains by the road of a burn't out tank from the war.Hopefully we all will be wise enough to resolve this to the satisfaction and benefit o all. After all we all are Gods children.Different mothers same father. Do into others as you would have them do unto you.
