What are the requirements to attend BLC?

My friend has his P status (he's infantry) from SPC to SGT and he just signed his papers to reclass to 25S (he doesn't leave for AIT till February) and the Schools NCO is telling him he can't get a slot because doesn't meet 25S requirements. Is this true and if is there something he can reference like an AR?

That's not a thing. His current MOS is 11B, not 25S. There's no guarantee he'll even be a 25S. Ask him to reference something instead of making up rules.

PVT(P) Aaron M. M. Bryant by "him" I meant the schools NCO who's telling your friend some made up rule. Your friend is completely in the right and the schools guy is applying a policy that doesn't exist

PVT(P) Aaron M. M. Bryant of course, your friend should also be aware that if he goes to BLC and pins prior to going to AIT, he may lose his Reclass seat. It's right in AR 601-280 Table E3. He had to sign a statement acknowledging that he read it. One of the things it states is that if his rank changes prior to attending school he may lose his class seat.

Sure, he has a 1SG and a CSM he has an open door policy with as well! Never assume a schools NCO knows their way around the system with a few years in the Army! Ask your Senior NCOs - that’s what they have those stripes for - guidance, mentorship and leadership!

Pretty sure I know who this is. If it is the right person he is assigned to 11ACR. Soldiers from Fort Irwin attend the CANG BLC at Camp Parks near San Fran. I told him the same thing that he is Not MOS-Q for 25S so it should not affect him. He is tracking the part about promotion negating his class date. He currently has around 370-400 promotion points. So far the information we have is that as long as he is pending reclass Camp Parks will treat him as a 25S for the OML to go to school rather than an 11B. He is ATTRS slotted thru RETAIN for AIT. Not his class date, negating his reclass.

So you're saying that he is qualified, he just dropped lower on the OML compared to the other 25S's? That sucks, but at least he still eligible. I always tell people, be careful what you wish for in Reclass... Those jobs sound real sexy until you realize promotion points are 500+

Roger. I tell all these grunts the hardest part of getting promoted as 11B is just coming into work every day. I know 88Ms with Bachelor Degrees who struggled in the past to make SGT and SSG, points wise.
Ditto SFC Boyd. There nothing in this statement that adds up. Even the caption does not match the body. Please clean it up with facts if you truly want advice.

I've given this some more thought. The only way this could be true is if you're friend is a medical MAR2 Reclass. In which case, he's no longer Infantry. For a MAR2 Reclass the SM has their MOS changed prior to attending AIT. If his MOS on his SRB reads 25S and the ASI is 4A, then he is not qualified in his MOS. ASI 4A actually means "not qualified in MOS - Soldier not at fault".
I don't know if your local BLC has a policy against that.

Which base are you at? The MACOM of the base controls the enrollment for BLC on their base, and the process is based off of the MACOM policies. If it is JBLM PM or email me.

If your friend is already assigned to a 25S duty position, and he is sitting there non-duty MOS qualified (NDMOSQ) then it is true: ATRRS will not allow any school application for him other than MOS.
Once he has a reservation for that MOS school, ATRRS will allow any other application.

I didn’t see the whole thing after the title line. MOS-Q is also a requirement as well. So his schools NCO is likely correct.

I would get with your career counselor to see if 25S is taking e5. Some mos’s require SPC and below. Could mess up the reclassification on getting promoted. One Reference AR 601-280, table E-3, line 5d. Just pop in the office and ask just in case. Hope this helps.
