What are you opinions on Chaplain Assistants getting "Special Treatment" such as exemption from CQ/Staff duty, Comp-Time for working Chapel Services on the weekends, etc. from their units?<div><div><br></div><div>What do you think should Chaplain Assistants be treated differently or should they be treated the same as any other soldier in the unit? <br></div></div>

To a couple of senior leaders who replied that CAs should serve like any other soldier should also then consider that any soldier should then serve as a CA. To blindly label everyone the same is poor judgement.

These leaders need to go talk to S1 and get the regulation and read it. AR 601-9 chapter 9-5f. This will explain why they do not pull duty.

SFC (Join to see) - Some units "read" the AR's when it benefits them. I was in a "unit" that while we were deployed had everyone fill outa form about their mother's and father's name for emergency leave if the unfortunate happened which I am fine with. I filled out mine and also in () stated they were deceased. I was 55 yoa at the time and nobody else raised me growing up. My XO said I had to put someone else in the blanks like my brother or sister. I asked if I could just put Santa or the tooth fairy because it didn't matter about that and had to print off the AR so he would shut up. I again had to print off a copy when one of my Soldiers sister-in-law passed away suddenly and they wanted to know if she raised him. needless to say he went home to support his wife.

MSGT Michael A. Brodine Why are so many so worried about what someone else and their duties. Maybe someone should worry about how they are doing.

MSGT, it is due to the fact they think someone is getting over, when in fact they are only worried because they want to get over.

I am a Retired Chaplain Assistant NCOIC! We worked crazy hours in garrison. Sometimes 6 and 7 days a week! Then you have spiritual retreats etc. They do enough! There is no need for a 56M to be added to any duty roster because he/she is already on one.

Every job has it's perks and downers, even in the military. I once had a roommate that was a cook. He was in and out of the barracks at some truly bizarre hours nearly every day.
Another buddy was infantry. Yes, they were in the field often, but when they weren't, they had next to nothing to do for long periods.
I was former MI that became a generator mechanic. I kept getting borrowed for every side mission imaginable since I had a TS-SCI & NATO Secret clearances and a skill that was needed at every remote location that had generators.
I thought that I would stay, "in the rear with the gear." Boy, was I ever wrong. First take a guess where generators are used most. That's right, at remote posts and forward deployed units. My security clearance also meant I got put on missions others couldn't do.
I got deployed repeatedly and put on countless TDY's with other units, sometimes in rather hostile places (3 OSR's, GWOTEM, GWOTSM, AFEM, AFSM, NATO (Former Yugoslavia), KDSM, etc.).
I suggest you should find out what someone's job description is before passing judgment. Chances are you have no idea.

Weekend services are part of their duties. It goes with the territory. All soldiers are “on duty” 24/7 , but if your regular duties require you to work outside of regular duty hours, then you are authorized to fairly compensated with adequate time off. I don’t see a problem with this.

Every MOS has its advantages and disadvantages. Be grateful for the perks you have and don't get upset by the ones others have.

When you consider that they work weekends and holidays, a Chaplain Assistant's life isn't all that plush. I had soldiers inquire about becoming one, and when they heard this, they said, "I'll see you later."

No special exemptions or privileges. If they are there to serve the soldiers they need to be with the soldiers where they are.

Major sounds like some toxic leadership that leads to low retention levels and blames the NCOs instead of himself.

No offense sir, but when I was in the Army in the 1970s, I worked in a 24/7/365 Air Traffic Control Tower and Radar Approach. We worked a compressed schedule that barely allowed us to meet the minimum crew rest requirement. Every week we worked two evenings, two days, and a midnight shift.
Sometimes my Friday afternoons started at 0800 on Wednesday morning. I actually got Saturday/Sunday days off once every 7 months.
After years of no extra duty, I got tagged for carrying the CGs flag - that two hours of duty meant the loss of two duty days, and upsetting the Apple cart to move two other FAA licensed controllers off of other shifts. Same thing when I got CQ a few months later.
Do some jobs need to be off the extra duty rosters? The answer is YES
