As far as I can see, most of my new Soldiers are coming to our unit MOS trained, but there level of fitness is not even 60% nor is their level of customs and courtesy. Are we doing a injustice to our future force by babying them?

Things that i have seen are junior troops adressing NCO's by their first name, and a few young ones dont keep up on their PT. it bugs me, but im just a specialist, nothing i can do, if I confront them and tell them to start adressing their NCO's by rank, they will just run and complain, i dont want that drama

I have seen many come out of 12B OSUT to fail an APFT a month later!

I am not going to claim that we are babying the Soldiers, but I feel as though many do not have a realistic grasp of the standards, not just for APFT, but in C&C, and other military aspects. I have had many Soldiers who have come in and been absolute professionals and others come in acting like they are back on the block. Many are coming in with a sense of entitlement.

I would like to see a return to the standards and ensure that Soldiers are prepared to deal with military life in general. The rest will fall into place if they are in the correct mindset and have the basic knowledge.
