Fort Meade, MD. Unfortunately, many first term junior soldiers are assigned to Fort Meade for their first duty station. The units at Fort Meade do not even come close to providing these young soldiers with a good example of the "real Army" and the leadership is generally disorganized at just about every level. It's disappointing, to say the least, because Fort Meade is the home of Military Intelligence and the units have a very important mission.

Any where in the north capital region sucks! I absolutely hated Quantico, junior Marines are the same there as you described in Ft. Meade

That's why these troops are M.I. you score super high on the test and pick your job. If you wanted the "real army" you would be a combat mos at Bragg or Benning. I loved Meade hated Bragg.

LOL, in my 40 years I've spent time at many shit holes but I've ALWAYS found it's the leadership that makes it bad, the place not so much. Good leaders can make a silk purse out of a sows ear. It also helps to go explore your post and its surroundings, find out what it has to offer.

I always separated the leadership from the place I was stationed. Often the place offset the leadership problems. And the Marines have few glamorous places. I was in Hawaii, 1st Mar Bde for 2 yrs, and that was hands down the best place I was stationed, but had the WORST leadership I have ever seen! Every politically connected officer who was slated for great advancement was sent there just long enough to get his time in command, then he was gone and the next guy tried to survive long enough to pass the mess on to his relief. But great place to get away. Conversely 29 Palms was in the middle of nowhere, but 100 mi from everywhere! No problems with leadership, and great to get away either to some great liberty spots, or to just get lost in the desert with a 6 pack. I loved 'em both. Many at both places thought they were hell, but it's all what you make of it.

I was in during the 80's and there was something about each duty station that I liked! It's what you make of it!

Ft Lewis. Sure it seems ok. But the second you step off Post, you're in batshit crazy liberal land. They aren't fond of military and they can't shut up with their whining about Trump

I'm starting my 3rd year at Lewis now. It's not THAT bad. I think people who like outdoorsey stuff would love it. I personally don't. I'm from TX so I hate the weather here. I also don't enjoy the Natives lol. But still it isn't bad bc I've been blessed with good leadership. The surrounding areas are filled with druggies and homeless unfortunately.
