I would agree with the other comments, any place is what you make of it. With that said, one of my least favorite assignments would have to be Camp Greaves Korea, only because it was a very up tempo assignment. Two passes that year with a mid-tour leave. Best assignment would have to be Fort Davis Panama. At the time best kept secret in the Army.

I’m currently stationed at fort polk, but have been at benning and Carson, and spent time on grafenwoehr; the bases are what you make of them. Graf would have been the worst except that right outside of base was Germany and the rest of Europe. I loved it there; Carson is nice but as stated the leadership impacts the impression of the area; polk is a shitty area, cannot sugar coat it, and to be single here would be miserable. But good leadership and working to make the place better offer hope to the situation.

Hands down, It has to be Ft. Irwin, CA. Was there a little over four years. 1984-1988. Life was so rough there that 1 of 2 marriages there failed, especially if you lived on post.

Fort Polk was rough however, add the local town of Leesville near the base it was the worst

Worst: Ft Hood, TX (middle of nowhere & living conditions usually bad). 2nd: Ft Polk, LA (generally has the worst reputation, swampy); 3rd: Ft Irwin, CA (training camp in the middle of the desert); 4th: Ft Riley, KS (good only if you like fishing, middle of nowhere and nothing to do; Ft Drum, NY, (snows above the height of your car in winter, good skiing).

I was lucky...I got every PCS assignment I requested.

How did that happen? I emailed my civilian Signal Branch official.
No complaints about any of them...

I once got an assignment I wanted only because a friend of mine worked at the pentagon

Don't know about the Army, but if it was the space force, I would say, Uranus.

I did not have any post that was bad, some bad leaders, but did not make the post bad. However, if I had to rank them I think I would place Korea last just because we could not have our family, but the Unit was great 1st TANK twice and 2nd TANK once.

Out of all the bases I was stationed in, the only one I hated was Camp Casey, Korea. Fortunately, that was my LAST duty station. I retired after that.

I was station there in 74, 75, 76, 77. I loved it. I think it would be very interesting to visit TDC today.
