I am pretty sure there is a small contingency of Army personnel stationed in Diego Garcia. But if there is not, Diego Garcia is a fucked up place to be stationed period.
It has probably changed a lot since i was there in the 1990's. It had changed a lot from the original base during WWII, when i was there so...

Ft. Chaffee, BRACed to the AR NG (you think Polk sucks, Chaffee was worse). Still has WWII barracks.
After that it's pretty much anywhere in the south, I hate the heat and humidity.

If you had 5 terrible assignments, the duty stations weren't bad. It was you. We've all seen people like this. Life sucked so I joined the Army. Basic & AIT sucks. Everyplace I get stationed sucks. Everything they have me do sucks. We've all done some really miserable things, beeen around real pricks, & had toxic leaders. We all had time off, good times with buddies sharing the same pain & misery, & lived under nasty conditions. I've been to assignments & TDY trips & the barracks rats are the worst. Berlin in the 80s was a party city. We have people who never left the kaserne. Not even to hit the imbiss stand just outside the gate. Even being stationed in Hawaii, there were those who saw that assignment as torture. In a unit that spent every other month in the field, you saved lots of money & then you had a great time when you weren't in the field. You got to see someplace other than mom's basement, met all kinds of great people, military & foreign, & people did make you laugh & smile even if you don't want to admit it now. No assignment is totally bad, just some of the stuff we had to do while there.

I was Navy, 5 consecutive tours in Pearl Harbor. Y'all should put in for Schofield Barracks/25th ID, or Ft. Shafter.

Great question! I liked Fort Benning but being there for Airborne in late June/early July was a little hot and humid for me; When at OCS and IOAC, I am 6-2 and on patrol at night I caught every "wait a minute vine w/thorns" across the bridge of my nose; I liked Fort Bragg except the time we had to spend our time in the "isolation barracks" prior to deployment (Airborne brethren allegedly knocked holes in the wall and plugged the showers!) and yes, it was hot and humid too in the Summer; Fort Dix was nice except for the excessive heat in the Summer and deep snow in the Winter; Camp Roberts in CA was okay except for the Summer heat and more dust than a human should have to endure (I didn't like the rattlesnakes either); I didn't mind a short tour at Fort Leonard Wood but it was hot and humid in the Summer and it is in the middle of "no where" and I could do without the chiggers; Another thing about the installations in the South - I love it there but I could do without the water moccasins in the waterways...! Ft. Riley was the worst 3 years of my career. Overall toxic environment. Even the fact that I was 4 hours from home in Missouri wasn't enough to make it bearable
