Every duty station is what you make of it. I was told that doing a remote tour in South Korea was the worst assignment in the Air Force. I looked at it differently. I saw that I could pick were I wanted to go afterwards so I updated my assignment preference list for short, long, and extended South Korea and wiped all others. Once I was there I found the unit and the locals to be great. I volunteered to go play with the kids in the orphanage, took a tour of the DMZ, went down into the tunnel that the North had dug to try and infiltrate the South, and went to the Imperial War Museum in Seoul. Sure we had a monsoon and a lot of snow but afterwards I was stationed in England which was my second favorite duty station after S. Korea.

it's amazing if you talk to someone about a duty station any duty station you get that's the worst station in the world. I told that about Fort Hood even by WWII vets my father being one of them. will I was stationed on Hood for 4 years and I enjoyed my time their . but I know others that hated it. if you asked why the only answer they would give is it sucked. I think a duty station is what you make it. they all have good points and bad points you just have to take the good with the bad.

Fort Chaffee! The barracks are old, it's nasty, it's hot, its humid, there is only one very small PX, and the mosquitos will carry you away and feed you to the enemy. This place is so old it's where Elvis Presley went to basic training, and I'm fairly certain very little has been updated since that time, including the barracks. Anyone on any active duty base has it better than anyone in the National Guard stuck at Ft. Chaffee.
