For those of us in Joint Commands, without any Army leadership, I expect we will continue to see a lack of counseling.

CSM Carl Cunningham My ETS date is May, but I am looking at National Guard options. The last time I remember getting any sort of counseling was around October 2013, when I asked for the command to initiate an investigation concerning the command not following Army regulations and holding personal biases against the Army Enlisted in the command. The results of the investigation told me that my 'accusations' were wrong without any elaboration. It did convince them to give a stern talking to my civilian supervisor to counsel me, but there has been no enforcement of this and many other Army regulations since.

Ah.....I see. I hate to hear that you are getting out of the Army as a promotable SGT. Seems like you just need a new start somewhere else. I wouldn't always let one command make the decision for you....

CSM Carl Cunningham It hasn't been just one command, my previous command had toxic NCOs that I believe either led or at least did nothing to prevent the suicide of a soldier in my section. My current command saved a 1SGs career after he was 'fired' from his 1SG position, he then stole MWR funds from my command, and they proceeded to send him to CSM school (after trying to give him an MSM for 8-months of filling an unofficial position). Speaking with many of my peers, they have encountered similar situations where toxic leadership continue to get promoted, while the genuinely excellent soldiers are often overworked, lack professional development opportunities and even harassed. My personal experiences have already caused more than enough damage to my mental health, at this point I have to look out for my own wellbeing. As you can imagine, my claims seem so far-fetched that it's hard to believe that these situations would be allowed to slide without a second glance, but that has been exactly my experience.

SSG Zachary Vrba Yeah, I was the only Army enlisted for almost a year. The other Army enlisted works in a different section, so I'm not sure how rating is going to work with the new system. There are also no leadership positions for the junior NCOs. I'm hoping the Army thought this through and doesn't screw people in our positions over even more.

It is long overdue and healthy for our Army in the long run. Too many NCOERs are inflated, elaborated, or exaggerated. We have to call the shot and this is a forcing function to help us get there. Is it perfect for every situation - no. But it is much better than what we currently use.

It will require leaders document counseling sessions. I am probably just as guilty as anyone for not doing enough of this. The line "every time we talk its counseling" isn't the right answer. Thanks for your input CSM.

You are correct SFC (Join to see), it will require us all to make some changes, the rated NCO AND the Rater & Senior Rater.
