I was processed through MD MEPS and made a 'courtesy ship' to NC which is where I will be shipping out of. My spouse is living in HI. Which of these 3 locations will my BAH be based off of? (I hope its MD or HI b/c NC BAH is not much compared to these states).
Additionally, other than our marriage certificate and a copy of his lease, what other documents do I need to claim a BAH for him at HI rate?
His lease does not have my name on it (we have been 'geo-bacheloring' for work and school), will this affect the process of claiming BAH? Thank you for the info.

Your BAH will be based off your duty assignment location. It's where your unit actually is based out of. So by your description, none of the three states.

You will not be getting Hawaii rate. And in order to even get BAH, the lease HAS to have your name on it.

You will recieve BAH for the location of you spouse at the W/O dependents rate for the duration of IET as long she is maintaining a current lease and is not living with someone else.

DA 5960 BAH Verification form. Unless your orders specify spouse located in a particular location, you get BAH for the duty location. Are you sub-letting? You can't just show a random lease.

I'm shipping out for basic to Fort Sill and then AIT at Fort Sam Houston. I don't know where I will be stationed at after but I was told by recruiters that I become eligible to draw BAH based on my spouse's location as soon as I go to basic.

SPC (Join to see) you should get the BAH for your spouse's physical location while you're in Basic and AIT. Once you get to your first duty station the BAH is based off your duty location. Save that BAH because I'm pretty certain the Army will only cover the PCS cost from your Home of Record to your new duty station and not from Hawaii.

SPC (Join to see) - entirely possible...unfamiliar with the BAH authorization for IET personnel. You'll need whatever orders they send you from MEPS to training on. But I do know that they do not start BAH for anyone PVT to General without a DA Form 5960.

You may need to get a sub lease agreement or some sort of rental agreement with your spouse or you in it.
