It is own operation. If you are wondering if you will be getting the OIR medal/ribbon, no you will not unless you have met the criteria set forth in the regulations.
Look in AR 600-8-22, in section 2–19. Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal. There you will find the exact details for what is warranted for the campaign medal and what is not.

I was there in 2014. I was deployed to Jordan. It is pretty much covered by the GWOT-E. It doesn't fall into any other campaign. I believe my orders grouped it with OEF but I think they use that term for everything in the middle east.

CPT (Join to see) - Speaking in regards to the orders, not the awards. For Kuwait, you will get a GWOT-E. Unless you at there before pushing out in support of OIR, which can yield that ribbon.

SPC (Join to see) So did mean. OEF on the orders is just a means. To deploy you. I don't understand what the issue is here. Are you trying to wear the Afghan campaign medal? Do you think you deserve some other campaign medal?

CPT (Join to see) I was only trying to get a clear idea on the campaign status. We had a brief discussion within my S1 trying to figure out the correct "answer". It seems like after 2017 there is no "on-going" campaign that OSS would fall under/be part of. Most of my own research were done online/HRC website but nothing in depth.

It should show on your orders as Operation Enduring Freedom (Spartan Shield) and qualifies you for the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (GWOTEM). You will be stationed in Kuwait more than likely, with a possibility of being sent to a few other locations, but with COVID-19 restrictions the opportunity to travel to other locations is limited and mission oriented.
Operation Spartan Shield which is lead by Task Force Spartan in the CENTCOM area of responsibility is comprised of Active, Guard, and Reserve units and provides area support and acts as a reserve force for the theater should additional troops be needed in the region.
Depending on where you are stationed you will come into contact with members of other branches, most likely Marines but also possibly Airmen and Sailors, as well as allied servicemembers from NATO nations and of course Kuwait.
