I am re enlisting into active duty army after six years in the National Guard and almost a year out. I will be going to a two to three week "refresher course" before going to my duty station in Germany. What can I expect from this "refresher course?" If it helps I will be attending this course as an MP.

I had to go through the exact same thing before re-integrating into the active Army. Its just a refresher course for your basic training, i.e. shooting, physical fitness, hand-to-hand combat, marching in formation again, etc. Are they now letting prior service back in? I was hoping to get back in the service as well.

I personally have never heard of anybody going to a refresher course. I would expect it would be some of the basic fundamentals of policing (I.e hand cuffing techniques, interviewing, report writing, Domestic violent scenarios. This can be a good thing, so being National Guard, you might not do this as an everyday job. I got you message, it looks like the 18 MP BDE falls underneath the unit you mentioned. Looks like it is Germany wide, so until you get pin point orders, you really won't know where you are going. With that, try to call your Branch Manager at HRC and see what you can find out. That is once you fully reenlist.

Update: The 2-3 weeks has no set time. There I'd no training, it is simple reprocessing into the army. Getting issued the new uniforms and dress uniform. If you are married you will have to do EFMP to get your family ready to PCS overseas. Then you will go to your duty station without your family and have to get command sponsorship once you arrive at your gaining unit. Once you get the sponsorship you have to get housing. Are all of this I'd done your family will be joining you. The process I'd much easier and quicker for single soldiers. If anyone has any specific questions feel free to message me. I am currently on my 3rd week of the process.

What information did you need to take with you to MEPS to ensure this process as opposed to having to go back through basic?

PFC A Christian there is nothing you can do. It depends on the current prior service business rules as to whether or not you have to redo BCT. I think when I went through it was a 3 year break in service was the cutoff for redoing BCT. I'm not sure now. The best place to look would be goarmy.com, you can search prior service business rules and get the most up to date info.

Sorry, I don't know much about the refresher course. Where in Germany are you being stationed/unit?

This response may be "Late", and you may have already begin your training. But the idea is to see what you know...
