I'm going to AIT to become a 12R, I was wondering what to expect, because I can't find anything about the training. Will I actually have freedom?

Your freedoms will be dictated by the Cadre, company policy and your ability to earn said freedoms. Right now, you are going there to learn a trade on the Army's dime. Focus on the steak and not the peas.

Also, I found this little video after a 2 second google search:

I went to ait as 12r a few years back and it was pretty good. It was 6 weeks when i went through. It was definitely more laid back than basic. We took a pt test sometime during our first week there and if you passed then on the weekends you could leave the barracks for about 8-10 hours which was pretty good. Fort Leonard Wood doesnt have alot on base but the mall is pretty decent to walk around and grab some food. Theres a dunkin donuts on post which was cool too. We could have cell phones on weekends only. It was a pretty good ait, a good amount of hands on learning too. Good luck

Freedom? You are getting paid and fed and roomed + learning a useful trade on the Army's money, what damn more do you need?

PV2 (Join to see) a few less restrictions because you have advanced, more technical training. Still have to earn privileges
