It’s not a bad gig. You will be separate from pipeline. Most likely in lodging. The only down side you are solely responsible get to your classes on time . Bring a car or buy one! You’ll like it . 1.5 hours from New Orleans . Every other weekend is a 3 day. Condensed work schedule.

Oh thats not bad then. I was thinking of bringing my car too. That drive will kill me but it will be better in the long run. Thank you.

Yes bring a car. It will be well worth the drive. You don’t want to be stuck on base. Beaches , casinos are right outside the gate. NOLA short enough drive for the weekends. Gulf Shores in Alabama , Destin and Panama City the other way . Work hard play hard .

Hello fellow veteran,
Your prior service will make you an asset They know that you are ready for duty.

I did a portion of my tech school there in '06. As prior service you won't have to march everywhere with the Airmen just out of BMT. I see someone answered you how long it will be, but look up the base's Covid policies such as testing, quarantines and movement restrictions while you are there. You may have to arrive early and wait up to two weeks before starting class.

seems to me that if one is to arrive 2 weeks early to quarantine then their orders would reflect that,

Keesler, if that's your tech school, is located a block from the beach in Biloxi, MS. Your recruiter can advise you of course length. I went through air traffic control school there in 73. That course was 6 months.

The length of your tech school depends on your AFSC. When I was at Keesler AFB, I was retraining and I was there for 7 months and I was an E-5 so your experience should be similar to mine. All the people right out of basic training stay in this thing called "the triangle" where they have to march to school, have the uniform of the day, have all kinds of details to do 7 days a week and basically get bossed around the whole time they are there. Unless they changed things, you're not gonna have to do all this stuff. The building that I stayed in with all the prior service and retraining people was called Locker House. You got your own room which they inspected every week or so and you just had to keep it clean. Physical fitness was scheduled on your own and they checked on you sometimes to see if you were doing what you said. All that you had to do was make it to school on your own. You could either drive there or walk if it's close enough. You just check the board every day to see if they had anything extra for you to do. It was really a very easy life you should have a good time there.

It all depends on your AFSC. I came over from the Army as an MP and came into the AF as SF because I wanted to keep the same job. What will your new job be?
