So with all of this news about several shootings last week along with Parkland and Las Vegas, Newtown and so on, I have been giving this serious thought. And I have an idea that might just work. There are two significant Constitutional obstacles that prevent the feds and other law enforcement from getting after mass shooting suspects either through denying access to weapons (2d Amendment) or so-called red flag laws (4th Amendment - due process clause). The federal government has very powerful resources that are currently being used to track jihadis, child pornographers/predators, and organized crime activities. These shooters seem to have some commonality in behavior with some of the above. So why not harness these resources to track and if necessary get warrants and roll these SOBs up before they execute? It wouldn't stop them all, but I think it might just make a serious dent in the problem. Incels, racists, Antifa, "lone wolves"... all of them seem to draw knowledge and support in the darker corners of the internet - and that can be monitored.
I would like to see your ideas that would actually make a difference. There are a lot of smart, thoughtful folks on this site, and I think this issue bridges ideologies.

Stop making them famous

If you commit mass murder your name, Face, identity should not be published until after the trial

Stop giving them the attention they seek

After that get rid of the free fire Killzone’s so-called gun free except of course for the criminals with guns

Stop forcing lawful, trained Americans from carrying there concealed weapons because they have to go to work or visit on a government installation

I would say we should make them infamous, and make sure that they land in the general prison population once they are arrested. Problem solved without expensive appeals.

Exactly somewhere between not helping and actively assisting I’m not claiming my suggestion is a panacea that would stop all mass shootings that would be ignorant

But it might stop one and in the end isn’t stopping one better than doing nothing?
- Add to that stop disarm in the public
- Stop creating kill zones under the guise of safety which has proven time and time again to be false
- Appoint a special counsel, court docket and facilities that have everything needed to prosecute AND defend a mass murderer with zero delay for court docket time, rounding up specialist, having enough investigator time, and all other resources needed.
Absolutely let the legal process happen but let it happen with no delays for lack of personnel, funding or any other resource required.
If given the death penalty the exact same deal with the appeals process. Not tens of years of delays, just days, non stop legal process to its end.

I will add SGM that the media should start saying the shooter used a 10/22 Ruger and stop educating them on what works. The 22, the most deadly rifle known to mankind and post a pict of the 10/22 in a militarized stock. I bet they could do studies on weapons purchased after being advertised on the world news and find they match that of the recent shooter.

I have actually seen several times on the news that they have caught someone before the act due to monitoring social media. If we can get that beefed up, that would be good. Also as people that are out there. Keep on alert. Keep your eyes open. Don't be the wildebeest grazing on some sparse grass while a pack of hyenas are sneaking up on you. I refuse to be a victim. I keep my head on a swivel. Don't dismiss anything that you may think is out of the ordinary. Investigate and report.

It seems like a lot of the time, people close to the perps seem to know things were amiss, but do not report it to anyone,
And if one of these fools were to rear up and threaten my family, his marksmanship had better be good. Because when I get to him, I will tear him apart with my bare hands.

1SG (Join to see) - Totally agree. You're standing next to a guy pulling an AR15 out of a bag and all you can say is "well isn't that peculiar" and walk away. Jump on that ass! When you take them don't they won't be expecting you to do it. Then yell GUN! and while most will run, some will turn around to your direction and run to help you subdu the perp. It just takes one to bring out the "BALLS" and the rest will follow.

I don't believe this can be looked at as one simple problem, thus there can be no one single solution.

1. Do we want "Internet cops," monitoring what everyone post? Add to that, where is the line drawn to determine if the individual is an actual threat or just blowing off steam?

2. This nation has such a view of mental health that we cannot openly discuss the subject.

3. Far too many people do not want to "rat out" a neighbor or friend, thus they stay silent to what could be a threat.

That is just a start of a very long list of potential areas that need addressing. I could add a lot more.

1. I am not scared of Uncle Sam watching me. They already do. It is a matter of turning intelligence into operations. A little closer scrutiny can identify if this is a cat that deserves a closer look through a warrant. What we post online is public by definition.
2. Why? And better still, why does it seem to be worsening? My personal theory is that we spend a lot less time face to face with people, and so our emotional connections are frayed or nonexistent. Ask a millennial about dating sometime; it is illuminating. People just don't learn social skills anymore.
3. Snitches might get stitches, but stitches heal a lot better than gunshot wounds.

I like the line you're on.
