What can you do or say at Basic to ensure additional smoke sessions?

Basic, Fort Dix 1977. They had a kid selling newspapers at the mess hall. I bought a Sunday paper, double timed it back to barracks (you remember, you ran everywhere unless marching). Drill was standing outside barracks. Asked where the hell I thought it was? Holiday Inn? Drop and give me 200!. That sucked. Didn’t buy another paper after that.

One more... Tell them that because you were in High School JROTC, you outrank them and they should salute you. Additionally, he was at Knox and was told he belonged at Jackson. The poor kid thought he was right; the response was priceless.

Easy. Just say.. "I love the way that Smokey the Bear hat makes you look cute, Sir". And always add, "you can't smoke a rock!" Good luck!

True story, during Bct back in 2000, my PG and one of the SL decided to go eat at the Burger King. They were caught by one of the other Battalions DS and brought back to the company. Needless to say that night till 0200 we got a nice smoke session that resumed the next morning at 0530 as this was a weekend. The session lasted until 1600. Afterwords my platoon was stripped of our Guidon until just before graduation, and this happened halfway thru red phase.

When i was at Parris Island my DI asked why my dumb ass joined the Marine Corps. With all the volume i could muster i yelled “Because chicks dig it and the foods free sir!!!” A recital of that statement was required of me at every quarterdeck session thereafter, of which there were many.

Drill Sergeant: 3rd platoon, this is my last basic training cycle.
Me: Drill Sergeant, this is my last basic training cycle.
It got real quiet, he gave me that stare that told me, “You just got your only free one “.

When my daughter was doing basic at Ft. Lost-in-the-woods, she was asked if she had any relatives in the Army. She replied that her Dad had been an Infantry Officer in the 1st Cav and her Grandpa had been in the 101 Div Arty. Big mistake.

Get caught wearing madras go-to-hell-shorts to the pay telephone. They made me put on my steel pot and do push-ups and t-bones for about an hour
