Things you can do or say at basic to ensure additional smoke sessions.
I thought this would be a good way to add some humor to the discussions list.

Things like...:

- Simply ask "Why?" for anything.
- "That was easy." after getting smoked
- Complain about the heat/cold
- Touch the campaign hat.

I had a drill yelling at me about something or another and she asked, "Can't you hear me, private?' and I said, "S#@t everybody can hear you!

As a just under the wire 34 year old "private" in basic, I was summoned to the DS office on about day 3. All 3 platoon DS's were in the office and they informed me they were going to make me platoon guide and asked me what I thought about that. I replied "ask me in a week Drill Sergeant." The oldest of the bunch could barely stifle his laughter and the one who informed me they were going to make me "guide" just told me to "get the hell out of his office." I think he was ready to bust out himself. I guess being almost as old or older than they were caught them off guard..

Have the last name Williams with nine other idiot privates.

Walk around the first day in the bay barefoot. When DS asks if you are from West Virginia, answer truthfully, yes.

Have a bipolar battle buddy who cried until she was chaptered out or laughed insanely at inappropriate times.

Not me, but another: Stash or hide toliet paper.

Don't do anything to get in trouble. I was older when I joined and did not do some of the stupid things the young kids did. So I stuck out in a way you don't want to...

Write a postcard, address it to yourself, and put the addressee in the return to sender area of the card. In the content of the card, criticize the drill sergeants use of foul language. I promise that mail call will never be the same!

We had kid whose dad was a genuine US Senator sent him a letter from dad in a franked envelope. CO and top delivered it to him. Was interesting when he opened letter and explained it to the CO

CPT William Jones - That would have been illegal. Personal correspondence is not authorized.

Or you could be the unfortunate one! we had a Guy named Grice Fell asleep behind his wall locker. After PT we went in and made beds showered and got in BDU's and most fell out for morning chow. The dinning hall was right across from our barracks. He went behind his locker and fell asleep after he made his bunk. So he ended up sleeping through morning chow and the unit left for the days training with out him. While doing Barracks Inspection the First SGT found him behind the wall locker asleep top broke his arm trying to get to him. That kid had HELL the rest of Basic.

Especially if one does it better than the DS does, not good to show them up at anything.
