If your goal is to be an officer, then the key is to study something you enjoy and to do well. Your GPA is important, physical fitness is important, and your school needs to be regionally accredited. Commissioning is very competitive, so it pays to seek advice from knowledgeable sources - so keep asking around.

Find the OSO that covers your region. They can give you the straight (and current) scoop.

Cpl (Join to see) - getting into OCS - whether through PLC or OCC is tough, but once in, they'll be looking for reasons to wash you out (rather than reasons to keep you and offer you a commission). Everything at OCS is an evaluation... everything

Simon, the most important thing to know, is make sure the school you attend is (WASC) Accredited since you are on the west coast, this is the accrediting body. Fortunately for you the greater LA area has a plethora of schools, colleges and universities. Start out getting your GED at a community college if you don't have any GED units yet. This might open doors and possibilities. Also consider law school too, there are many throughout LA and Orange County. I am sure you will do great! Don't give up and just know it is a process we have all undertaken. Good luck!

Not sure where Simon is from in LA, but starting at any community college is great, then he can transfer to almost anywhere. Chapman University, UC Irvine, USC, UCLA the possibilities are endless....

Make sure it is a regionally certified school. Nationally certified is not as good and will really limit your chances of transferring or working on a graduate degree at a different school

Certification is important, not certain what most PAC 12 school certification is. Go to the best academic institution you can afford, in LA you have lots of choices.
What spurs your desire to go to school and pursue becoming an officer?

Cpl (Join to see) - yes, I agree. I am going for my second bachelor's so I can get into a good graduate school. Wish I would have known to look at the type of certification instead of just that it was certified.

LTC John Shaw - I hate being told by a new guy "the school house taught me this and that's what we're doing" cool use what you know but you got people around that can show you what other variations there are.
