I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

It seems the general consensus is those who Joined the Army/Military before 2005. I do believe when the majority of the aforementioned had changed to a "Kinder, gentler military".

Old School was back when the last NCO to show up at the mandatory Friday night NCO meeting at the NCO club had to buy the first round!! Old school was back when you were encouraged to smoke, drink and harass the female soldiers. Old school was when wall to wall counseling took place out behind the Quansent-hut and who ever came out did the counseling. Old school was when you were told to suck it up cupcake...your a soldier! So I noticed old school fading from the ranks in the mid to late 80s, some say it was the late 70s, but once the majority of Vietnam era vets retired or left the Army...the new and "improved" Army took over which brought us up to this social experiment of a gender neutral Army with safe zones and stress cards. I prefer old school soldiers, they are a dying breed of men.

If your battle gear was claymore/broadsword, shield and helmet, you were "Old School".

Being old enough to remember when DIs and CCs that could lay the hands on you in boot camp; Navy ships and subs strictly adhered to old maritime traditions of every kind, and you could get hurt participating in them; the Navy work uniform was Seven Seas bellbottom dungarees, Seafarers denim shirts, Boondockers, and Dixie cup; when Navy men were at sea and Navy women were on shore, and there were no known funny folks; and Chiefs were revered by all and saluted by admirals!!!

Being "Old school". Getting a flat top hair cut
Wearing white gloves to a friend's house to inspect it
Saluting every jeep that drives by (MARINES ONLY)
Calling you kids trooper, airman or seaman
Having morning roll call at work (civilian job)

I did basic in a green pickle suit. One of my earliest missions was to assist in getting rid of C-rats through digestion and only Rangers, Airborne, and SF wore berets
