Solid green fatigues, stateside and jungle issue, spit-shined black boots. PT shorts? We ran in fatigues and boots. Real deuce and a half's were all we had. Humped an M-14, wore a steel pot. There's more, but you get the "old school" idea. Army, '69-'71.

Well Major Petrarca I agree with everything that you stated except for a couple of things, when I joined in 76 we were still eating C-Rats, didn't get MRE's till later on I think around 83 or so. Also don't forget the M113, or the very best one M151A2 jeep. awesome little jeep. Also we didn't have no PT uniform ours was black boots pants, and T-shirt in warm weather, and shirt top in cold weather with black gloves for doing the monkey bars. Everything else is as you stated Oh and last one is the good old five ton truck it would go any where. The gamma goat was rough riding but could go almost any where scary time was when we had to swim the 113 and the goats in Berlin.

When I first went in 1977 we ate C-Rats, and had OD uniforms. We also did PT in our uniform.

I started in July 1972 and ended in Aug 1996. I think I was in the old Army, New Army and the damn thing we was in the 90's. I used to love to drive a jeep (a real one), a gamma goat, a deuce and a half and eat C rations (with cigarettes included)! I really loved the Army, but could not be in today's army. To much PC and trying to be accepted by all and not just winning wars. I am sorry to say today's American Army may be in danger today. We used to say the American Army should be able to fight two wars and a low intense conflict all at the sametime! Today we can not fight one war and win by itself. This is due not to the American Soldier, but because congress and the American people are not behind our military. I think when the enemy finally shows themself here in American it will be to late. They will make 9/11 look small. I know this is pretty deep but the truth.

Taking your physical with draftees in the same line at MEPS. This also constitutes old school.

..perhaps it would be easier to define a "new Schooler" ?
LBGT is ok, EO office is ok, its not my job is ok, you cant ask me to do that is ok, my supervisor treated me harshly, i am here for the education benefits then i am out, Iam here for my kids, im a single parent, I am here for the family benefits, i am here for the benefits i can get because the US taxpayers owe it to me, etc. etc. or ITS MY RIGHT, you cant deny it to me.."
OLD School, 'Mine is not to wonder why, mine is to do or die.." Nuf said.

Old school is not being coddled, it is still having integrity. It is doing your mission with out amenities or a stress card. Standing up to what you do wrong and not whining when you don’t get recognition when you do good. It is setting an example for those who come after you, not talking about someone’s fuckups behind their back, but helping them to make it through, yes, that’s does include some Officers. Being appreciative of what you have and proud because you stand on the line that grants those things, not just for you, but for everyone in American no matter race, creed, or religion.
It is being there for you buddies, even after you are a civilian soldier, remembering no one is to be left behind. When you are proud to be a Soldier until the day you die, not ever letting it slip into the back part of your memory. This is just “A FEW” of the things that make you old school. Doc
