I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

MRE's! I didn't eat any of those until later in my Army time.....I ate C rations. Never saw a Gamma Goat except in photos. Rode in plenty of cattle cars and remember deuce and a halfs very well. Only wore a steel pot. The only tactical vehicle I ever drove was a Jeep.

Sounds like the new military is a lot more "woke" just from this. I remember in basic at Lackland AFB singing cadence, part of which was "If I had a low IQ, I could be from Iran too"....as we marched past the Iranian officers barracks. They were training in pilot shit or something in the days of the Shah...

And of course, everyone smoked everywhere except in formation, and even then, "light 'em if you got 'em" was a thing.

Fuck I'm so glad I was born when I was.

The old "Disney" Barracks at Ft. Knox we stayed in were drier than a popcorn fart, and had more wax on the floors than a candle factory; the Cadre were afraid the damn things would go up faster than a Bottle Rocket, definitely "NO SMOKING ALLOWED!!!!!!!"

I believe it is anyone with more than 131,257.5 hours of service, at least 2 uniform changes, and still talk about programs and policies that are long since replaced (like FormFlow and effective unit PT)

If you showed up for muster and saw a line of weaving red eyes and your CPO was only worried about you doing your job(or helping him onboard when he's drunk)!

Depends on how far back you want to look. 1962 Cuban Crisis. Straight green fatigues not camouflaged, saucer cap 50 mission crush, qualifying with M1 carbine in basic and then going to M14. Back then we talked about old school with the brown shoe days.

Did PT in combat boots and BDU’s
Wore a helmet liner and steel pot
Class A’s and B’s were still Kakis
Ate C rations
Was issues a mess kit
Lived in WWII barracks
Carried a shelter half
Your weapon was an M16A1
Top rode around in a Jeep
You feared your NCO’s because you knew that would smack the frack out of you
Should I go on?
