I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

Like Maj Petrarch: Everything he says but we did PT in our fatigues and combat boots that were starched and your underwear were starched, sometimes they would let us take off our shirts but you had better have a white T-shirt on otherwise you did a lot more PT than the rest, having to do KP which was faxed out in 1971 and 1972, fire guard duty because the WWII barracks were a fire hazard that could burn down completely in about 6 minutes and there two floors of 30 men per floor, it was all done by screaming and shaking the bunks to get everyone’s attention, hopefully.

Wearing the old pickle suit with so much starch they stood on their own, being paid in cash and signing for it. PT you had to run 4 miles not 2. How about when MREs first came out and everything was dehydrated. Instead of pop machines you had beer machines. There is so much that I could go on for a long time.

I'm really feeling old school. Left the Army in '68. Never heard about most of this stuff.

When getting an adjustment meant being hit in the head by your DI. When getting an adjustment meant having the shit kicked outta ya in the whiskey locker by a DI

Run company PT with fatigue pants a Platoon tee shirt and boots.
Two sets of boots. One spit shined for inspection and work boots.
In the field eating C rations.
Having to strip your room floor and wax and use the buffing machine.
Having CQ.

According to my brother, Old school is being in the Marines when the drill sergeants were still able to "beat their a**" without repercussions. Of course he came back just a bit more "psychotic" than when he went in.

The first marine recruited at tuns tavern Reported on board the uss constitution and when queried by Od his purpose and mission replied “I am a marine” he was directed to the fantail and wait....

A few minutes later,The second (ever) marine reported to the uss constitution and received the same instructions with the comment what is a marine and what do they do?????

Upon arrival the 2cd marine started to shake hands with the first (ever) Marine which brassed him with the admonition SON, you should have see the “OLD CORPS !!!

Now let’s forget stupid phrases like “the real army” ad nauseum

Semper Fi !
Cheers
