What constitutes being "old school" in the military?

I enlisted 40 years ago, now several generations of "old school". I would say the tipping point is when the "Hurt Feelings Report" became offensive

Any time before all combat first sergeants retired, military didnt know what woke and crt mandates were and military field grade officers could say no before military was politicized

Civilian often credit the military with omniscient and omnipotent powers. Such is not the case expecially after first contact with the enemy's . First , no one could fathoms what was happening on September 11th , as suicide hijacking were not the norm nor contemplated . Second, the "fog of war" was very real and present . Remember, the four hijacked planes had their transponders disabled which made tracking those aircraft difficult.

Teasing the "old" soldiers to tell you about the old Brown Boot Army. Then watching your own son wear brown Army boots and is clueless on how to spit shine a boot.

What is old school? Is it the thousands of push-ups, being squared away, spitting on your boots to make them shine like mirrors? That was for discipline. Running and obstacle courses, even one day motivation, for endurance. Mastering you rifle and MOS was training, training you took with you into combat to defend your base whether you were Marines, Army, Air Force, or Navy. But today Old School has an entirely different meaning. In Old School our oath was to defend the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Our Old School leaders were also committed to that oath. They led for victory against hostile enemies, they worked, as we did, under their example to ensure that we fought, and lived as one. Today our so called leaders are more interested in destroying the unity of the ranks. They push for judging a soldier's whiteness, they push agendas to segregate the troops. But none of them could get their heads out of their political asses. If they concentrated on military planning, they never would have let bungling biden close Bagram Air Base, leaving tens of thousands stranded in taliban and isis hands. Or the $82 billion in equipment, as well as technology which the chinese or russians did not have, until now. Lives lost, pray for those left behind to be held as future hostages. I truly believe that Old School is what we need, and especially leaders with courage enough to tell, even the president, he is fuc*ing up big time.

"Old school" is a moving target. My first service was from 1947 to 1952. Old school was pre-WWII. We were issued uniforms and equipment from the war. I was even issued a sweater that was made during the war by some civilian that was given to the RED Cross for the soldiers overseas. Our boots were untanned and fuzzy and we had to work very hard to make them smooth enough to polish. Fast forward to 1959 when I was commissioned a 2nd Lt., I found boots were black and the Class A uniforms were green. Suddenly I was old school. So, it looks like Old School is the previous generation and nothing more.
