Never heard the term old school when I was in; looking forward to Project Transition; going ROD; $1.90 per carton cigarettes; QM laundry; and your paycheck being so small after taxes and the 1SG’s cut for the flavor of the month charity!

I remember when you had to strip your brass using Brasso and a tent pole, when you couldn’t survive inspection without edge dressing. If you got captured during Bivouac, the drills treated you like a POW... they would take you behind the barracks and put hands on you if needed it and you never told... because that was better than an Article 15. That’s old school.

Gotta agree with the Major with the exception of never eating MRE's..we had c-rations and ran our PT in our fatigue pants ,t-shirt,and our "boots".....

Your "Old Corps" if you;
Stayed in "splinter village" (Korean War barracks) during receiving week,
Had DIs that made it "rain",
For "IT" DIs would make you do "mountain climbers" 'til you cramped up or puked,
The best three months, in hind sight of course!

I think if you raised your hand and took that oath then to me you are a vet. Some dont agree just like combat and non-combat. cooks in the rear, supply in the rear, front line or never seeing action are you "wartime", those that are Cold War Vets everyone has their own ideas and opinions. If you took the oath to serve this country and honor that flag then my opinion is your a vet but thats just me. It takes more than front line to make it work, without food, supplies ect noone is soldering.

Hmm lets see I am old school plus an "Old Salt as well" 4 years Navy, 3 years army and 3 years Air Force reserves, and 3 years Navy reserves. I see alot of mention of the Army, fatigues, yellow pt shorts, shelter halves, cattle cars ,goats, M-16 being shipped on cardboard with cellophane wrapped around it like a mattel toy, Ill take the M14 and my old .45 thank you. and gotta love the old wood Barracks and ice cold showers But there is also fire fighting, learning to patch holes before you drowned, smoke house, gas house coughing up your guts. "General Quarters, this is not a drill"out with the fleet, riding out 40ft waves tied in your canvas bunk. I could go on and on. I have been approached before because I have different ranks on my cap but I quickly let them know I served in different services which many did. It is becoming bad people impersonating military with medals all over the place and in a way I cannot blame those confronting others but if you are a vet be tactful and polite about it until you learn if they ARE a Vet or not. You will find out pretty quick.
God Bless all and Merry Christmas, remember all of our brothers and sisters serving right now.
