I joined when the old school was with the new school and man the whining. Old school the words 'suck it up comes to mind'. If you got swore at or told to get down and do 50 there was no such thing as time outs. If you couldn't handle getting your feelings hurt, taking a 5 minute shower with 90 other people, sleeping on a board, staying up 60 hours for battle stations, getting beat for 3 hours because of something one person did, or drilling til your feet hurt you weren't cut out for service. At least that's what I was told.

Never had the yellow for PT but remember a pack of 4 cigarettes in each C-ration meal that were probably left over from Korea. Almost sunk a gamma goat while swimming because there were no drain plugs installed, Brasso was your friend, WW11 barracks at Fort Ord, singing non-politically correct cadence (by today's standards), taught drivers and mechanics in real deuce and a halfs, M60 tanks, Sheridans, M88s, etc. at Ft. Sill. M16 was not the most reliable, trusted the 1911 Colt more.
