I'm hearing/reading people saying "I'm old school, therefore..." So out of curiosity's sake, where is that ever-moving line?

My boots were black and highly polished every day. We relied on maps and navigation skills, not GPS. No time outs in training. When we messed up we took our punishment, no excuses, and moved on. When an NCO or officer gave us an order we didn't ask why, we did our duty.
Every generation thinks they had it tougher. My uncles say it was tougher in their day, they fought in WW II. My father was more Korea/Vietnam, he says it was tougher in his day. I enlisted at the end of Vietnam, beginning of the Volunteer Army, training was a bit tougher than today.
To me Old School is keeping faith with each other, the service, our country. Doing your job as best you can every day. Hoorah!

I was in boot camp at Great Lakes in 1947. We had a 2 CPOs who taught Marlinspike Seamanship. Both wore the square knot of Apprentice Boys. They were old school.

I think I'm OLDer school: Back in MY day, I carried an M1 Garland in Basic. I was in the California National Guard and my home unit went from M1s to M14s when I got out in 1969. When I went back in 1976, we had M16s. Inside the handguard it said Mattel. The rifle was made, if I remember right, by the Springfield Armory. Sorry to, as my mom said, "Prattle on."

Old school:

You got to drive an army jeep, before the HMMWV was ever heard of.

Teaching a platoon the Old Infantry drill of Civil War times for competition. FM 22-5 was merely a guide.
