My son is going in as a 35M. What countries could he be deployed to with French and Spanish? What would the respective missions be?
And with a score of 98 on his DLAB, would he be able to get a waiver for Russian?

35M can be deployed anywhere. They aren't limited to their language region, the Army can put them into whatever slot they need if they're short of a certain language.
The DLAB requirement for Russian is 110. Even if he could get the waiver, with a DLAB of 98 he would fail DLI.

CPT (Join to see) I agree with that. The Army abuses its language MOS's by treating them as interchangeable, then changing the manning requirements constantly. The next thing you know you've got a Hebrew speaker sitting in an Urdu spot being told he can't stay in his MOS unless they are willing to learn a whole other language that might be over strength in three years

SFC (Join to see) - My prior Intel BN nixed their 35M company, and moved the company 400 miles away. Those that couldn't do the move scattered to the winds. Then 2-3 years later moved the Company back up, and ended up having 20+ 35M vacancies at E3 (effectively trying to start up from scratch again a capability they previously had).
Honestly, if the son in this case really doesn't care what he's going to do in the Army then he'd be better off with 35F or 35G.

CPT (Join to see) oh wow! That’s crazy especially given how much time and money is spent on training the 35Ms.

SFC, I completed the French course with someone who reclassed in the ARNG with a waiver after Failing the DLAB. SFC (Join to see)

You need at least a 110 or higher for Russian. He’d fail because Russian is one of the hardest languages at the institute. It doesn’t matter what language he gets, as a 35m he can be placed in any unit that can fill the slot

1. Waivers handled by the MOS Branch, and I seriously doubt it happening. 2. Spanish- Europe, South America, parts of pacfic. same of French but delete South America and add Africa.3. Ask him what a 35M MOS does.
